Title: female window cleaner
Post by: Jay Le Huray on December 21, 2013, 08:26:30 am
for years my son worked for me, about 6 months ago he decided on a career change so I was left on my own and finding it hard to keep up with my work load.

my girlfriend offered to come out and help me, at first she was just winding in my hose, collecting the money etc but as time went on I taught her how to use wfp in the correct manner and I have to say she does a great job

one thing I have noticed is that since she started working with me we have picked up several new jobs as housewives approach her rather than me, I can only assume that females are more willing to approach a fellow female?

last week for example she was approached 5 times whilst we were out and all 5 converted into new customers

does anyone else use their other half and if so how did it pan out for you?

I don't personally, she has a "proper job" and I couldn't stand being with her all day and night, wouldn't be good for our marriage I don't think.

Re the quoted part, let us know how many are still customers after 3 months and were not just after a Christmas clean. ;)

Oh and welcome to the forum!

My wife works with me. Most walk ups go directly to her. This also has something to do with us being trad, and she works the downstairs  ;) No really, if we are both standing around or working on ground floor, most walk ups approach her.  She gets on very well with the customers too. I used to think women would hate the idea of another woman being able to see into their houses etc. Seems not to bother them though.

In the motor trade we had a few ladies (not many) in the new car sales environment. They always seemed to have an advantage as any single woman customer felt more comfortable talking to someone of their own gender and 'single' men customers also tended to gravitate to them (for some reason.)

Despite the advantages, very few suceeded as the hours were long and their maternal instincts usually got the better of them.  :)

For a short time my wife worked with me she was approached by ladies asking us to quote for residential cleans. Most we still do today so they were genuine customers. One especially is a really nice young lady who has recommended us to her friends as she feels totally at ease with us and knows both she and her friends won't be 'hit on'.

As for the wife working with me, it didn't work out. You have obviously got a very compliant GF so this will work better.

Cozy, that's interesting as your window cleaning side is mainly British forces personel and their families.

Does the same thing apply to the carpet cleaning side you are developing in the other language market?

There are a few wifie windies round here. I have employed one myself, not my wife - that would not pan out well - but a local lass. She was pretty good with customers etc but as others have hinted at eventually her ankles began to swell and she was puking in the mornings. She left less than 9 months later.  ::)roll

Nowt to do with me you understand - think it must be summat she was eating cause she got reeeaally big...

Spruce, yes mate, works really well in the MOD work we have. A for the German market, same again. Women feel relaxed when a woman is on the team. Takes any sort of worry away, or so it seems.

hi jay
you will pick quite a few customers up this way as the main cleaning decisions in the household are done by the ladies.we have done well since jen has joined the business. sign written fleece tops with phone number also does well. Try canvassing in jan and feb to get new customers for march cleans.

Wor Lass 'n' I have worked together for about 11 years now.  It's not always easy, but it works for us.  We make a pretty good team, when she's in the mood!  >:(

Not many females tend to be able to stick window cleaning; it's not easy especially in some of the weather extremes we get.

Wor Lass is a tough auld bird though; she' not a normal chick; she even runs some very tough fell races in all kinds of weather.  Last year she nearly got hypothermia running over some Welsh mountains:

It helps keep her fit for work though.

I remember when you were on here as grafters. I hadn't been going long then but I found that having a woman working with you does attract new custom. It worked for me as I preferred to get on with the job and be as social as duty called.  :)

hi mark, hows it going? I think it was about 8 years ago when I first joined this forum then for some years I did not bother to use it, to be honest the reason I came off it was because I found a lot of members acting very stupid and being nasty to other members which was something I did not want to be a part of,

my view was that a forum should be about sharing ideas and helping each other not slagging people off, has it changed yet?  I don't know so lets see what happens lol
