I am at the stage where I need to employ, i have a 2nd van ready to go, i have a local round lined up from another window cleaner which i am going to purchase which will give 2 vans enough work (my business will have over 100k in total per year of regular window cleaning work)
I have a job advert in the job centre but I cannot seem to find a decent employee, the most promising guy didnt turn up for his 1st day (was a trial)
I have had people applying with experience of window cleaning but live 40 mins drive away, is it worth giving them a chance?
or is it a good idea to train someone up who has no experience of window cleaning?
any advice appreciated

we have 2 lads (21 and 23) both had no window cleaning experience, but were good lads looking for a chance, they are a real asset to us. and we have just taken on a 60 year old, who is young at heart and he has fitted in brilliantly he is fit and on the glass is up to the speed and standard of our lads.
Employing is big step, take you time, get the right one, it might happen straight away it might not, if it helps at all - when we ran our job centre ad (a pretty long one!) right at the bottom we added in you will be required to send/attach a COVERING letter with your cv - any applications without a covering letter will not be considered.
This proved a useful filter, it showed someone did (hopefully !) read all the ad and showed us who could pay attention to detial, and then took the time not just to send cv but had to attach make efforts to send covering letter - it worked really well for us x
Mrs Smudger
Then choose maybe 3-6 to interview and do not make any decision until you have seen all 3 or 6!!

im sure you already know, but dont forget about going vat registed with the above fiqure, we try to get people with no experiance and train them up top our standards, then they have no bad habits bought with them,

already know about vat george im on the flat rate scheme, gone ltd too
I've decided to arrange interviews on my best 6 applicants this weekend all on the same day will make a decision after meeting them all,
does anyone employ someone who lives far away? more than a 30 minute commute?
-
6 interviews in a day is a lot Scrimble, you need to be as sharp and keen in the first one as you are in the last one, we split ours over two sessions normally, it gives you evening one to think who is the best you have seen, and then you have a good bench mark for day two - just my opinion xx

interviewing like that is messing about. you can rule out most ne-er do wells in the first 25 seconds, just ask em to touch their toes,if they groan on the way up then they wont be any good.

This is what I do with potential partners/wimen.

Wait til jan thousands of bulgmanians on their way fresh meat to exploit
10 quid a day til they wise up
Then trade it in for another one
Youll save a fortune in wages and they will be out to impress
Cant wait for the albanians an kosovos to be let in
I reckon I can get them for 2 quid a day
