Title: Help with weight of water/tank
Post by: craig jwc on March 16, 2006, 09:43:23 pm: Just got an 800l tank to put in the garage to purify my water into and want to transfer the water into a tank in my Kangoo van.

The van i was told will hold 800 kilograms.???

What size tank can i put in the van or how do i work out the weight??

I thought a 250l tank would be the maximum size but have been told that a 400l would be ok.
I'm not sure 400l is right.

Apparentely 1 litre = 1 kg

so in theory you could hold 800L but you'd have to take into account the rest of your payload although 400L should be fine

400 should be fine. A good tip I read on here was to put all your tools into the van (including the water tank, fill up the diesel tank, then drive to a local weighbridge to get it weighed while you are sitting in it. The difference between the van's gross payload and the van at the time of weighing (in kilos) is the number of litres you can put into the tank. Probably better to allow a bit for leeway too and remember that carrying a passenger will make a difference.

Post by: Tim Morton on March 17, 2006, 12:16:21 pm: 800L would be too much, a 400L tank weighs 10-15Kgs, your pump, di vessel and battery can easily wiegh another 15Kg, add another 10 Kgs for 1 hose and reel, 2 poles at 3-7 Kgs each and dont forget to add yourself at ??Kg and finally add your lunchbox. I personally wouldn't put anything larger than a 400L tank in it.

Post by: sair on March 17, 2006, 02:49:41 pm: we run the 800 kango and they handle and drive well with 500 liter water we have double wooden point on top two 100 m micro bore and carry 36 foot pole 18 foot power pole down stairs pole and window equipment all our frames have stainless steel frames around them and there well with in there pay load 07944 227635

1 litre of pure water is exactly 1kg.
