Title: First day with the new "all season hose"
Post by: Clever Forum Name on December 11, 2013, 08:31:12 pm
Well today i tried out the new Gardiner hose.

Today has easily been the coldest day here since jan/feb. Today the pole hose was fantastic to use, it was very easy to use and wrap up.

The hose is only one day old lol BUT it does look very promising.

Tomorrow morning will be the real test, as i am leaving the hose in the van all night.

I haven't had time to weigh it, but it does feel lighter than the previous yellow Gardiner hose?

Wonder if Sir Alex would like to comment on that...........

FYI Cold system, water was about 5-8c

Getting in in tomorrow, I dislike the current yellow and red stuff, both hot and cold it's pretty horrible, the red much worse then the yellow. Went back to clear tubing, this new hose should be interesting.

Second day and I willing to stick me neck out and say this WILL be a decent hose.

Came to look at hose this morning, very flexible.

Old gardiner hose was like wire cord!

It's listed as lightweight on Gardiner site. I "think" the old pole hose wasn't classed as lightweight.....

OK stupid question time - I already have 100m of 6mm microbore (a lot heavier than I thought it was going to be, no wonder you guys say keep the hose and reel in the van!), which I thought was 'reel' hose, why would I need 30m or 100m of all season 'pole' hose?

It's for going up the pole. You would only want longer lengths of it if you had more than one pole or if you stocked spares.

OK thanks.  So presumably it's needed for when the pole hose needs replacing, in which case how often is that?  Do you just cut what you need out of the 30m

Just if it splits - every few months I suppose. Yes you just cut the length of the fully extended pole + a wee bit (depending on personal preference).

Thanks very much.  In which case I'll order a new pole and this hose at the same time and see if they'll let me take advantage of the special offer!

O right, I just buy any pole hose I bought the bright green one a few weeks ago, as got to be 8mm as I like a fast flow of water. Tried
The 6mm found it to slow. Mind you pain getting it through the pole as I have to drill the hole bigger in the end cone so I can get it through 👳👳👳

Awesome hose.

Haven't changed my gooseneck hoses and old hose vs new hose is very obvious in cold weather.

Loving this new hose. Just need to test it's durability now.

Hose that goes down the gooseneck....

When warm 8c -10c it could be kinked but it's
Deffo not designed to be kinked.

Better stick to horrible pu hose then.  :(

Yeah PU hose is best for pinching due to the construction.

Nice when hot, pretty horrible when using cold. Worst thing is it seems to go really stiff when going from hot to cold, remembers where you coiled it, or wrapped around stuff, like it's got a memory. Seemed fine the first time I used it cold, not any more now.

The old clear pole hose was the best of both worlds. Three types of pole hose later and it still not coming near to the clear stuff. In my opinion.

HI Tim

What temperature did you use with the hose? It is really only a cold-warm (30°C) water hose, any hotter will affect the compound mixture which may be why yours is now 'acting up'.

I see. About 50c or so. Really lovely hose when using hot. Shame you can't have both. Only had to use cold as I ran out of gas. I'll keep using it as I use hot all year round.

I think that is the solution then. Use it with cold or warm and it will maintain its cold working characteristics or use it with hot (30°C+), but it will not go back to being quite as supple and user friendly if using with cold again.

I ordered some today on introductory offer. The last lot I got PVC YELLOW - 3 OM PVC/Rubber
I find is so stiff and inflexible not easy to handle and it stays as it is when it's been coiled up!!!!.
I got on well with the old stuff shipped with poles last year.
Hope this is better.

I got some with my new 25 foot extreme (AKA sex on a stick) and have used it for two days with warm. Lovely hose for coiling up, no tangling and it pinches a treat. Does the same when cold but needs more effort to pinch.. On the downside and this is probably due to me using it at higher tens than it likes. but I find that it takes very little effort to accidentally pull the hose out of the connector up near the gooseneck. Maybe a little strengthening insert would help with that..

Looking at the stock we have in it should last us until the end of January.

If it is pulling out from the push-fit connector either because of the temperature of water being used or the force it is under then one of these little connectors will fix this - http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/John-Guest-8mm-stem-to-6mm-Barb-PM250806E.html

Get a tap! This new hose is a lot better than the old stuff. I've been using it the past couple of days I've been out and it's really good. Pop round if you want a look.
