Hi Guys,
I have a question to ask about the black mark that appears around the perimeter of some carpets, that we refer to as the (Draft Mark).
Could anyone tell me its composition and why it only appears around the perimeter of the room.
Many thanks

Rob, These draught marks are generally dust that gets drawn up through floors and gets deposited around edge of carpets via skirting boards. Can find them as lines under doors, especially airing cupboards and front doors. Worst cases are rows of dots coming out from skirtings........caused by knee kicker piercing membrane in carpet during fitting. This is sometimes quite pronounced and harder to remove, although it could have been avoided in the first place.
I always use Prochems Citrus Gel or Ashbys Anti Grease with great success but warn client that results may not be 100% as marks are from backing. Wetting through to backing carries risks of browning so CAUTION. Marks will reappear eventually but advise that problem areas are THOUROUGHLY vacuumed monthly to keep at bay.

Hi Rob. They are also known as filtration lines or filtration soiling. Here are some articles you may like to read...

Another good way to prevent the draught marks from reappearing through puncture holes in the backing, is to stick some gaffe/ Duck tape over the holes in the backing of the carpet (seal the holes).

Strange ???
My post on this subject has vanished without trace.
Come on Derek you don't have to delete it just because you don't agree ;D

Hey Woody
I never put a finger near my delete button... honest :-/
It was either you punched into a rival bulletin board by mistake or one of the other moderators zapped it for some reason!
You have me intrigued now...I wish I had seen it...

Derek

I would have assumed there had been a glitch in the system but then some odd things have been happening recently...will investigate!

Hey Mike
I reckon he forgot to press the 'send' button...It's OK... put it down to his age...they tell me he's harmless if you don't feed him ;) ;D
Kind regards

Woodman, there was an earlier thread with the same heading, on which you posted on 9th Feb. Perhaps you are confusing that thread with this one.
