I got this bloke that phones when he wants the windows cleaned, ive done them twice now.
at first he said he would call me when he finds out about the old window cleaner who was ill (he sadly died) but he still just calls when he wants them done, he wont comit to every 6 or 8 weeks.
Do I dump the twat or what ?
-
Do I dump the numpty or what ?
Speak to the guy first, just say, "Look I don't do on-demand window cleaning, if you want me to be your window cleaner we need to discuss a frequency!"
Or explain that to travel to just one semi isn't viable unless you charge X amount extra for this 'special service'.
Don't just dump if he's an okay kind of customer; just wait till he calls again and have a chat.
-
What Tosh said although I would have said when he first phoned,"really sorry but I don't offer an on demand service".
-
Just explain to him nicely that an on-demand service is charged at double the monthly cleaning rate.......with no exceptions.
-
I would also add that these type of persons are not reliable customers and likely never will be.
The duration between them phoning you usually gets longer and longer.

he only lives around the corner from me,

I have a fair few like this , no problem at all . There at a good price and I'm happy and they are .
They pay cash there and then , do the job , there in , coffee , pound notes at the end of it .
Variety I like them .
They pay me just like the regular ones do .
Can't see the problem
-
Ideally, I would like a full round of these customers. Pay more than regular, payment on the day, never a not this time and window's really do need a clean. Would need hundreds of them though. It's how they work it in many countries.
I already have a lot of them, usually big country houses, I like them.

yep have a couple of customers that do this, they pay a lot
more than maintenance cleaning..i just class it as a bonus
and crack on

That's the point. You would need a lot of them. You need hundreds to make decent money offering a regular service. You would need thousands of customers like this and you would still not be sure of paying the mortgage.

i couldnt be bothered with him myself.id offer either 4 weekly or 8 weekly at an agreed price and thats it.if he s not willing to do that i just wouldnt clean them.
plenty of customers who will fit into your schedule.
-
If you can fit the work into your round just charge a bit more
For as and when . If its normally £15 for regular, charge him
£20

+1.
I've got a few like this.
I know they're not going to anyone else and I've had a few recommendations from them that turned into regular customers.
I don't mind if I've got the time.

We offer a demand service... dont have no issues with it.
The phone rings, I say when we can do it (when were in that area), charge a bit extra and bobs your uncle.
;)

I had one last month. I do half a dozen in a cul de sac at £10-£13 each.
Twice a year, summer and Xmas, this customer walks over to me and asks me to clean his windows. I charge him £35. He's happy and so am I.
-
I'm sure most of us do one-offs now and then - we just ask for about twice the normal rate we would charge for a maintenance clean and we fit them in within 2-3 days of the call. So what's the difference with this custy?
The other benefit is you don't need to visit to price the job...
I always explain to my one-off custies that there may be one or two spots left after the wfp because they would've been a big build up of grime, spiders nests etc etc and so I head off that particular complaint at the pass.

I even push for it, its easy work with wfp. Did one today. We clean the house maybe 4 times a year. £85 for basically an hours work with a cuppa and cake thrown in. Last time she had these home made chocolate muffins (she runs a muffin type local business) They looked epic. " This is a tester she said " So she only made a few! ****ing dog came out, saw the cake and raped the cake in like 2 seconds. Could have booted it across the garden lol
I have told the lady it would be FAR cheaper to go on a cleaning cycle. She likes the way we turn up when she asks and she knows she is paying for that privilege.
I got a bottle of wine and £5 tip today. Bottle of wine was £60!!!! Then read it was for a case of 6 online LOL :D
If i had maybe a semi which is worth £15 regular, i would probably want double for on demand. As sometimes it aint worth it!

Did you eat it once the dog had had its wicked way with it?
Nahhh the little monkey even ate the muffin wrapper. He was on a mission :(

At least they won't need a poo bag when he goes - it'll be ready-wrapped! ;D

Same. or double the price if one off.

I was working away and had the headphones in and some woman asked me 'how much'. I pulled one out, gave her a price and said, "But I only do regular cleans!" and she says, "Oh, I only want it done as and when".
"Sorry, I don't do that" I said replacing the headphone ear piece.
Once you've always got a back-log, do you really want this kind of customer? It's fair enough (maybe) if it's some mansion, but for a run-of-the-mill semi, I couldn't be bothered to mess about.

I have 3 customers that phone for an 'as and when' clean. Usually 3-4 times per year. They are all large country houses though that are priced between £120 and £180. The kind of jobs that turn a decent week into a great week.
I wouldn't personally bother with this type of customer for smaller houses, but each to their own.
