going to start offering direct debit to customers, offering 50% of their next clean if they sign up direct debit. I am only offering this to customers that I have to go back and collect money from as I think the 50% will pay for itself over time in diesel and time in the future when collecting.
what percentage of your customers took up direct debit when you offered it to them?

Just tell them the reason u r wasting ur money collecting!!
I did this last year & good few went with it straight away but more gradually during year now they say best thing I done as they don't need to chase about for ££ or think has w/c been paid etc

more of an incentive for people to join up, as i do not plan to go out collecting soon! want it to be all online or posted cheques if they must!!

I think most people would probably co operate if you tell them you are stopping collecting and don't really give them a choice, without it costing you a half price clean.
If you really want to give them an offer why not make it 20% off gutter clearance or another extra service. That way you might get a few extra jobs and everyone's a winner.

+1.
Only offer the money off if they push though.
IME if you offer a 'because' it puts you on the back foot-seems like your apologising.
The DD is beneficial to both customer and cleaner.
The 'benefit' I've highlighted to the customer is saving the stamp on the envelope.
Or if paying by PayPal usually-being able to 'completely forget about your window cleaning' 'every month (or whatever) your windows will be cleaned and payment made without you lifting a finger'
That kind of thing...

I wouldn't offer discount for paying , ever, just tell people
That's how you would like to be paid.
I've always taken direct bank payments, its so easy and costs
Less than paying cheques into the bank. Never had an issue and
Most people want to pay this way now.

its a mistake to offer money off. there's no need. Direct Debit's are better for customers and for you too. if you insist on doing anything, say the price is going up unless they pay by DD as it saves you time collecting. that way it's win win :)
