hi i was at a house today that had what looked like limescale on the glass mostly at the top the windows have not been cleaned in at least 4 years could it be a build up of dirt or something ? i could not get it to come off! any suggestions? ???

I have used Viacal bathroom lime scale remover, spray it on and it eats it away.
But some times you get marks on the glass from brick above and you cant shift it.
One customer has this and he could only remove it with a mild acid, but it comes back.

NOTHING BEATS PURE VINEGAR FOR LIME SCALE.
Cheers jeff.

Hi Jeff Evans,
I will give that a try.

No probs Kevin,
I allways carry a bottle in the car, in summer there are allways people that spray the windows when watering plants, and it leaves lime scale spots on the windows when it drys.
Cheers Jeff.

Cheers jeff.
Any particular type of vinegar?
-
Don't know if it's recommended by anyone on here, but I've heard a couple of people say petrol is good for removing stains on glass.
Don't smoke while you're at it mind! :o

Hi Callum.
No it doesent matter, i use malt vinager because thats thats what the wife buys for home use.
Lime scale is alkaline
Vinegar is acid.
Only one winner.
Cheers Jeff.

I've got a badly scaled up window to sort out, and I'm going to try some vinegar on it, but I was wondering if the vinegar will run off before it's had a chance to react with the scale.
So I thought I might try mixing a little bit of wallpaper paste with it to make it gooey - anybody tried this?
(I know I can try it and see, but I don't want to look like a complete fool if it doesn't work and the customer is home!)

Mike.
Just put pure vinager on your applicator and rub the window with it.
Cheers Jeff.
-
Thanks Jeff, I'll give it a try.

I GOT SOME CUSTOMERS WHO EVERY MONTH HAVE LIMESCALE ON WINDOWS, WHICH I SCRAPE OFF. SHOULD I CHARGE MORE ON THESE, AND WHEN SUMMER COMES MORE WINDOWS GET LIKE THIS DO I CHARGE EXTRA? I NEVER HAVE UP UNTIL NOW BUT IT REALLY DOES BUG ME WHEN IT IS BECAUSE CLIENTS SEEM TO NOT BE BOTHERED TO FIX AN OVERFLOW OR A LEAKING GUTTER!
ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS?
ALSO IF YOU ARE WFP HOW DO YOU SUGGEST PUTTING VINEGAR OR DESCALER ON GLASS, DOES IT AFFECT WFP?
-
white vinegar works great.
no need to use the wfp if cleaned with vingar, and if, unlikely, its an upstairs window we're talking of then its a ladder job with a bit of elbow grease anyway.

Hi riverside
we had problems with this on change over windows seemed ok with trad but showed lime scale worse with wfp we use mdr by hand and then wfp but rinse extra well 2/3 time ok from there.
