thinking of getting clx 22 as 1st WFp
should i get fan jets/ pencil jets?
hosetail should be- Minibore?
plastic 1/2 inch hosetail?
alu 1/2 hosetail?
im getting pure freedom reel below if this helps answer

I had my van mount system fitted by Pure freedom in 2007 , they did a great job. I have always used Gardiners for poles. I use the SLX extreme with extreme brushes for houses. Expensive but fantastic.
Pure Freedom are great for RO etc. I had a CLX until I wore it out, then I got my SLX. CLX are ok unless you have used a SLX.

buying your equipment, poles etc is a learning curve and how much you have determines the purchase,
my advice would be go straight for the extreme pole because thats where you will end up in a couple of years, if you can afford it and it will save a lot of wear and tear on your shoulders

thanks bob so its the slx extreme is it?
budget is not a huge issue because ive managed to get away with di instead of ro so saved a nice bit !

Thanks very much for this thread Tom, I too was about to get a CLX22 - the replies have stopped me making a huge mistake. If there had been a pole between the 18ft and 25ft Xtremes, it would've been perfect, but I'll get the 25ft.
Pencil jets were recommended to me, to answer one of your questions and I hadn't noticed the lack of a hoselock on the Gardiners reel, that Pure Freedom one looks really good.
100mm microbore is very good apparently, but I don't know about the connector types, tails, females, EZ-Snaps etc!

ive had to go to wintecs as purefreedom wont deliver to ireland it seems, strange given id be paying delivery costs! silly buggars

The clx is a very useable pole, if it is all you can afford you will not go wrong with it.
By like most thinga the more you spend the Better the quality.

ive ordered everything now except the poles so going shopping now for afternoon :)

Go for the 27 clx, I use it all day, and it reaches nearly everything ;D

Fourth? Blimey. Older style houses a 30ft pole will reach 3rd story 25ft newer style houses. To play safe a 40ft pole i guess...

there are some apartments i could do with fourth floor ive been approached about but dont think it would be regular either, so might just go with 30 foot for now so

I wouldn't personally buy an slx 30ft. It won't be that fun for normal work. The sweet spot for average window cleaning is ya 22ft/25ft range.
So i would buy an SLX 25ft for my every day pole, then look at buying extensions.
You don't want to be using a heavy pole all day when you wont use the sections!
To give you some idea I use an extreme 18 for about 98% of my windows!

il go with 22 or 25 so but u reckon 25?
wud an slx 18 be too short, 99% of my work is 2 storey but u know some houses have extensions ( some big ones) off the back of their houses

I would then buy the Number 6 extension @ £57 plus vat

This will give an SLX 22 which will be great for most of your work, and give you that little extra reach.
Then in the van carry the 6th and then maybe even 7th extension giving you a 30ft reach pole with one extentions and a 34ft reach with two extensions.
This method works out slightly more money and the pole is not as long.
BUT you do not want to be using a 30ft pole for everyday use, it will be fine for a year or two maybe even 5 or 10 years. THEN your body will hate you for it.
IF! You can afford it, my ulitmate advice would be buy an extreme 25ft, then buy the add on packs.
IF you cant look at the SLX 22 or SLX 25. SLX25 would be great!

Each have there place in window cleaning. MY advice would be stick to pencil. Less chance of spotting and easier to get used to.
Unless you are like my dad and use low flow fan jets with 100 tds and get 17 complaints in one day :D

Just to put my 2p in :) A lot of good advice has been given.
An SLX22 is a great pole as an everyday pole and would be my recommendation for domestic work. If the budget can then stretch to a 2nd pole (which is always easier than extensions) then an SLX39 would complement this well.
If the budget will not stretch to 2 poles then you could add extensions #6, 7, 8 & even 9 if needed (along with a new longer hose-pack) which would get you to the high work when needed.
I would stick to pencil jets - much prefer them.

I did ask what your budget was, but I am guessing you want to spend a bit but not a lot.
I stick by what i said. SLX 22/25 and then extensions.
The only thing i will say is this.....
You will use the pole every day, it will pay for its self in less than a week, why scrimp?
Hence why i use extremes, best of the best and all that.

I can afford it but opted for SLXII 18 rather than Extreme as I think it'll last longer and I don't like the idea of fixed clamping position at such a short length.
Also got SLXII 30.
Got the extreme 47.

Because it is a lot lighter and is more rigid. This makes it a lot less tiring to work with.
However if you are starting out then an SLX is a very good pole and can take a bit more abuse and knocking about. I usually recommend SLX poles to those starting out as the Xtreme are a much bigger investment and you need to be sure of the need for it before investing.

Control and weight. The more rigid the pole, the quicker you will work.
The lighter the pole, the quicker you can work and work longer.
Less RSI Less everything.
SLX2 will be a good starting point. Gardiner products hold value, so dont worry about selling them a year later, a month later, 2 years later.
Watch my videos on pole maintenance and laugh at the fibreglass noobs lol

NO BS, and top products. I recommend them to everyone.
We even use his poles for wasp nest treatment now!

It depends on loads of stuff mate.
I have seen a chap on a set of step ladders using an 18 ft pole to clean a 3rd story window. The time he loses and the extra strain on his arms and back must be unreal as it looked very awkward. He saw me watching, and said "wanna go??" So i had a go and it was fine. Not saying i would ever do it, but its an option.
Window cleaning is about time and lost time is lost money.
If you don't have a lot of work and have days off. Then a slightly slower pole which weighs a few more grams is hardly gonna be noticeable.
When you HAVE to do £30 an hour 6 days a week just to remotely even keep pace with your round. Then your business smarts will kick in and we wont even have this conversation. You will buy an extreme and share your advice with the next newcomer :)

Yup! I got my poles yesterday after seeking plenty of advice from Uncle Alex ;D.
I am now the proud owner of a 22'SLX and a 35'SLX .....I'm one very happy chappy :).
Alex and his staff are second to none and are a breath of fresh air to deal with...did I mention I'm a happy chappy :D.

the options on the slx pole end are - minibore tail/ plastic 1/2 tail/ alu 1/2 tail
i ordered hose from wintecs but it does not say anything bout what connections go with it??!!

Are you looking at the SLXII 22? I can't see those options anywhere, only EZSnap tail, Hoselock tail, Pro26 and EZSnap female. I'm currently creating my own pole/brush/neck/reel/hose/connectors shopping list so this thread is brilliant.

its called pole hose for a reason :P
You want to ideally go with the EZSnap range, seem to be the best value :)

I "think" its a typo.
You have
Pole hose 5mm
Micro bore 6mm
Mini bore 8mm
You need either of the top two, but they are saying you get a minibore connector!
