In my previous life I worked in a rank based organisation. I have seen and been both types of Boss... Its not Shxxt or Rollox.. The latter way is they way you get results and get them fast.. Shoving, pushing and beating until morale improves. Gets you nowhere..
Push people and they push you back.. Lead them and they will walk over glass for you..

If they take the P.... crush them like a bug... Destroy them and make it public.. Very public..

Well said above/ I was horrified when I first came to the U K I felt as if I was working  in a 20 void in business people management. I asked a boss whats in it for me. The answer was you get to keep your job and this was a motivational day out every one had a laugh.I got up and said to him with that type of answer he was lucky to keep the respect of the team.He said some to me about jobsworth.  Next week I was looking for a new job, I had had his position in a few companies overseas and was gob smacked thinking the U K was a 1st world country.  Well said Mr Bateman.

No, you've got it arse-about-face.  It's praise in public, bollock in private.

And when 'bollocking', remember, shouting is only for parade squares and battlefields.

The best bollockings I've had were never the screaming in your face type of ones, but the low-key understated 'talking' bollockings; they were the most effective.
