im spending around £4 per day on gas.this is working with the heater a little bit more than minimum.so if i use it every day all year round it will cost me around £900 a year.
ive tried it on minimum temperature but i might as well work with cold for the difference it makes.i work with a high flow so i need it higher to get good warm supple hoses and warm water at brush end.
im putting my prices up in april so that alone will bring in an extra £3,000 a year.
ive nearly used up my 13kg gas bottle that i changed last wednesday.ive had 6 days use out of it so works out at £4 a day.
im thinking of using the heater til the end of march and then switching to cold for the summer months but i might be tempted to use it all year round.
if it allows me to work just one good extra week a year where i couldnt with a cold system it will pay for the gas for the whole year.
decisions!decisions! ;D
so how much do you guys spend on gas?
very best wishes
dazmond

I dont spend £4 per day, i would say mines more like £2 - £2.50 per day.
Its all down to,
how hot, you may be a few degrees higher than others.
how many hours worked, your day may be longer than others.
Gas cost, you may pay more for your gas
It should be how much you earn per £1 of gas
-
steven my boiler is running for about 5 to 6 hours a day as i trad some ground floor work.not much though.
£24-50 for a 13kg refill.
my days vary but today i worked 930am-330pm and earned £220.i had half hour for lunch and a tea break so with a little bit of driving 5 hours "on the glass" time.
-
19 kg bottle nearer to 4 weeks!!!!
-
I don't use mine all day every day, only when I feel it is cold enough. I know some use it all the time, but I don't see the need to. I did when I 1st got the heater, but the novelty soon wore off when I was constantly changing the gas bottle!
-
I think roughly 1 kg of lpg equates to 2 litres, so your paying " roughly " £1 per litre.
Where as im paying 72p per litre, its roughly 1/4 less, which works out to alot closer as a daily usage.
Hope this makes sense???
-
Put a new cylinder on on the 12th so must be running out soon. 13kg
-
Just worked mine out as £3.26 per l :o
6kg for £19.60
-
Daz your not going to beable to use it as hot as you do when it gets really cold unles you want loads of cracked glass and then it will cost you loadsamoney lol !!!!
-
cheaper to buy a diesel heater in the long run ;)
-
Don't forget gas prices are going up by at least 10% a year and how many hours will
you get before the boiler needs replaced.
-
Gaz, £220 a day and you're worried about spending £4?
I spend that on Sandwiches
-
Cheaper in the long run to buy a concept 20 system 600 litres at 60 centigrade costs about £2 a day. Tank for lpg is underneath van 72pence a litre.

I love how overtly veracious you are dazmond; to hell with not disclosing your earnings. :)

where do you buy your propane? bloody expensive!
-
sean i think some guys on here have had their l5 heaters for over 3 years so i know they last well if you make sure you drain them properly after each use esp if its gonna freeze overnight.
as for gas price increases.everything goes up mate including my window cleaning prices!im happy to earn an extra £3,000+ year on year which ive been doing for 4 years now. ;) :)
im not worried dave about spending £4 a day on gas just wondered how much you guys are using.
do you all run your heaters on the bare minimum with a lower flow? as on minimum its barely lukewarm?and hoses dont feel that different to cold unless i turn the heat up a bit!!
-
13kg of gas heats approx 6,000l of water for me.
£25.
Cost per£ earned is minuscule.
-
I only run my heater on min when working on the coldest of days,
At the moment the heater is about 1/2" of min
-
darren you have the same heater as me and 13kg of gas heats up approx 1800L of water at present for me.how the hell are you getting 6000L per 13kg of gas?is yours always on min temperature?

I've had it a bit longer than you bud, longer to play around with it.
When I first got it I was getting about half what I do now.
I have the heat dial not much above minimum, the water dial fully open.
Control the flow with my analogue flow controller on just under 2/6 (I know that's about a third before anyone tells me but my controller is out of 6)
Heater is on the wall behind the door that stays closed in my Trafic. Unflued.
Heat at the brush I don't actually know but just about steaming and temperatures here have been c. 5• here.
You've used, what, 5 bottles Daz?
Took me a few more than that to get mine what I'm on now.
Keep at it, you'll be happy with your use soon enough.
-
im nearly on to my 3 rd bottle daz since fitting the heater! ;D

You're only a pup. ;D
I'd say within 10 bottles you'll be happy with your use bud.
When it gets colder, you'll use less.
-
Heater on minimum for me.
I do all downstairs windows trad, so a 6kg bottle lasts me two working weeks. Im happy with that. :)
-
darren if i turn my water flow dial up from min on heater it wont fire up so i have to keep it on min.

Daz does hot help at all on maintance cleans??
I can do a front in 2-5 mins depending on size with brushing each part of glass and frame twice, i dont see how hot would help for that for me??
I understand hot has its place with first cleans and con roofs but if someone like me who does minimal extras and next to no first cleans anymore i dont see how i would benefit especialy seeing that the outlay cost to install it all and then the continuess running buying gas etc??.
Would you say id benefit going hot??.
Sorry to hijac.

Depends where you live and if you want to work in sub zero. It's quite regularly 0 degrees where I am, so I view hot as a necessity now.

He uses it on minimum and can work in -14 c ,he also defies the laws of physics are you a secret alchemist ;D
-
Dazmond buy a 19 kg it works out cheaper pay £31.18 here .
My last one has lasted approx 68 hrs with the water hot .

Small and perfectly stupid.
Mick.
Yes & no.
I think you'd be marginally quicker.
But it is much much nicer to work with.
The shop where I buy my gas didn't have any bottles this morning so I'm on cold today.
Really don't like it.
I'd say for the tiny amount it costs in reality go for it, it's all tax deduct able anyway.
Did you have to stop work last winter? Winter before? If not, you'll probably be just the same.
If yes, a hot system could pay for itself in a day if you'd lose that day anyway.
But only you are holding your purse strings.
Dazmond-I'm no expert or anything-obviously-but my boiler fires up no matter where either of the dials are placed if the water is flowing over 1/3 on the flow controller...
-

My mistake, £3.26 per kg,if it is 2l per kg then thats not so bad. Get my propane from go outdoors.

7 days. How many litres is that Daz?
-
mick im loving the hot water.i had a filthy first clean to squeeze in today and it cuts through the dirt so much quicker than cold.
it also speeds me up a bit on 2 monthly jobs that are near trees.i do a fair few of these types of jobs.they are always dirty when i turn up to do em.
on normal monthly jobs i dont think there is much of a difference but its nicer to work with soft warm supple hoses.windows sheet better for sure and any dirt just dissolves faster with hot.
-
its a 13kg bottle darren so thats 26 LITRES i think going off other people estimates.my boiler is still firing up but the bottle feels empty!! ;D

Sorry bud, I meant how many litres of water have you heated with 13kg of propane?
-
about 2200 litres darren.averaging 300-350L A DAY.
-
about 2200 litres darren.averaging 300-350L A DAY.
Ta.
I reckon I'm getting more than double that.
You should be able to too, with some fiddling.
So 2l=1kg propane?
13kg bottle=26l?
I'm getting 13kg for £26-£30.
It's 75p per litre at the forecourt so £1.50kg.
In bottles it's £1.30litre/£2.60kg.
Is this right?
I'm usually better at maths but my brain is fried tonight!

Thats why the refillable are so much better.
They have an accurate gauge on them and you can go to the garage before work and fill up, you dont have to wait till it runs out or exchange early and waste gas.
-
darren i get a 13kg refill for £24-50 from a local boat yard.

Well u gotta say going hot for me in really cold icy days, it's not about how hot cleans it better as I'm not bothered as yes I clean same windows in summer with cold which look just as clean. I don't do really hot just Luke warm where my hoses and jets don't freeze and hoses are nice and soft to handle. It's all about being able to work thru those really cold icy even snowy days. 👳👳👳

some variation in prices there darren!my local DIY shop also does 13kg refills for £25 but 50p is 50p so boat yard for me! ;D ;D

Tell me about it!
Weirdly, the £35 place sent me to the £30 place when they had ran out.
As if I'd ever go back to £35 unless I was desperate.
Ho hum. Onwards & upwards.
