Title: Don't come again until after xmas!
Post by: Klean07 on November 21, 2013, 07:37:08 pm
I had one today say that even though there's another month left in the year for me! It happens every year though not too many thankfully!
Anyone else get this?

I had a guy the other day tell me (by a note in with the cheque) that he wanted to 'take a break from having his windows cleaned' till after winter, and he would be in touch next year!. I will be sending a letter back to him shortly that I work all year round, not seasonal, so if that's what he wants, I wont be back! ::)roll

Why not leave it and wait to see if does call you back... If he does (but he probably won't) you can then decide if you want to do his windows then especially when the working days are longer during the spring/summer. If he doesn't call you back then he's off the round anyway...

A few of my customers want to go to 8 weeks during the winter and 4 weeks in spring/summer. That's fine by me as I believe in a little flexibility goes a long way rather than being too rigid. A couple of these customers then gave me patio/driveway cleaning jobs this summer and so I made a few £hundred more as a result.

That said, those ppl that proper mess you around should just be dumped whatever!  >:(

My lads had a crafty customer today.  They were told to leave it for a month, no explanation.

Only when I looked at the list and figured out its an 8 weekly job which means by skipping a month they get a Christmas clean. if it was done today we wont be around again until January.

So I put  them forward 8 weeks on the system. Got to keep things regular  ;D

I've hardly any who dare try this game now.

Clean/Clean/Clean/Mess/Drop.

Or make a rod for your own back. You choose.

Tell em that the trouble with that is if you get asked by a new custie you'll have to give new custie there space.

Or say your not a tortoise you don't hibernate through winter.

Well said Gold ;)

also they will say "can you now do it every 2/3 months"
from my experience remove from your list and replace, you run your business your way not theirs

I dont mind changing them to 2 months.  Some people are struggling with money.  I had a single girl last night say can I stop cleaning.  I texted back " ok, where you happy with my cleans"  then straight away another text " would you prefer a 2 monthly clean"

she texed back saying it was money.  then said 2 months would be a better option.

I think because everyone is broke after Christmas they panic a little bit.  hell when I was doing a normal office job we used to be broke after Christmas and January.

Good advice though about the price increase.  I will be upping the winter breakers by a pound when they call next year.

The reason I would send the guy a letter is to give him the chance to reconsider. If I tell him I don't work seasonal, he might think about it and realise how unfair and unrealistic it is to expect someone to do without their 'wage' over winter. Don't get me wrong, I aint holding my breath, but you never know!

A point needs to be made here mate. People have a window cleaner to get their windows clean, not to provide him with a wage all year. We provide a service, so if someone wants to change the service to suit them but not you, then I find it best to go our seperate ways. The best way to avoid these situations is to get more work than you can handle, then shave off the "leave it this time's".
The customers doesn't owe us anything regarding an income because we have bills to pay. Hope you see what I mean.

Don't sweat over this..  I make two Points.

1) thats fine but I won't be able to guarantee Ill have a space in my round after Christmas as Ill have to take on another customer to keep up my income..
2) If After that and the are still insistent I offer them the 10 week rate instead of the 5 (to secure their place on the round) the 10 week rate is 50% higher than the 5 week rate.. I lose next to nowt. and reduce my effort....

Haven't lost one yet.....

Good points there, took me longer than it should of to realise that.
First few years jumping through hoops to keep everyone happy i did need the work.
I use to hang on to every custie for dear life.

Funny i don't throw custie away if i can help it but when i can see it's turning sour.
Dumped a couple recently and within a few days i've picked up new custies is that Karma ;D

If everyone said this to me then I wouldn't have any work to do next month! I've made my mind up and decided to dump them!

I have a few that will do this at this time of year, great customers rest of year, its a big financial strain at christmas so it give it a bit of leeway,  just put a bit away in the summer when earnings are up, and resume normal clean in new year.

I have one customer that stops through the winter months so last clean was in nov and they said not till end march or April , now the thing is when they first started doing this a few years ago my first thought was just get rid but when i thought about it i was charging them £26 and the job took me between 25&30 mins and is a easy job the people are nice enough so when i restarted i put the price up to £28 so just ask ya self is it a good job if so keep if not don't bother but if they phone you up go back round and re price it say you charge £10 then put it up to £12.50 and if they do the same the following year the re price again from £12.50 to £15.00 and so on if they ask why tell them if they don't cancell the price won't go up that way ya may keep them all year through I hope this helps

Tbh its made me think that lifes too short to be messed around by these kind of people so I'll be doing some extra canvassing in the coming weeks then replace all the messers, bad payers, etc with hopefully better customers!

just looking at my list of jobs and i have just 1 JOB that wants me to leave it until new year.its a £9 job on very compact estate work.when i take him back on it will be £12 monthly as the job was underpriced in my eyes.take it or leave it.

no problems with any of my other 350+ customers.

I find it makes little difference to me overall. I have regulars who may ask me to leave the windows for a couple of months in the winter Then again I have others whom I only see at this time of the year, but as they are well priced it makes up for any supposed shortfall.

It's swings and roundabouts. All my customers get what they want, and I am earning what I need to, so everyone wins.

We all have exactly the same problems with all our customers, so there aint any real need for us all to tell " my story" here,  as they are identical.

its working life.

Yeah Gazza, but not all of the people on here know that we all have the same problems unless someone mentions it. There are always new people joining and people here who don't post often that think all their problems and challenges are unique. So if you find these subject repetitive, just ignore them and let others learn from them.
