Title: Do you keep invoices for your residential custies?
Post by: hank jr on November 21, 2013, 05:12:15 pm
Hi all, i am just trying to figure out if i am doing my books correctly or not? I use my work sheet for the week, aswell as my mileage sheet, and a book with earnings & expenses. Is this enough to keep mr taxman happy? I have recently been told i should give every customer an invoice aswell ??? Do you do this?

Wouldn't of thought custys would want an invoice, only commercial for there books. If your working with cash why declare and give it to the Tax Man ? I'm Commercial & Vat reg so I have to invoice and declare all my warnings 😕👳👳👳

Cheers thanks for the reply. well i thought this was quite stupid myself to be honest. I only do residential and im pretty sure none of my customers would be bothered about an invoice at all ha ha. the point is it was actually an accountant who told me this.

I don't invoices to each customer, when your end of year comes, your accountant can reconcile your accounts by want you have paid into bank through the year,a true reflection of you earnings will be if you pay in cash and cheques, but it's up to you. From an accountants view and the revenue it's all about income over expenditure.

As Dannymack , wasting your time with invoices on domestic customers. Invoice only, for business customers. Accountants love paperwork !

He probably want the invoice copies cause he'll charge you extra to sift through them all.

I think that TECHNICALLY we should give each one of our customers a receipt or invoice.

It's one of those things that isn't practical in the real world so MR tax man doesn't actually enforce it.

Thankfully.

Just write on a invoice at the end of the day
1- tom street £10
2- tom street £10

Total cash £20

Wrote it up on one invoice , job done

My worksheets count as a record if I were to get an inspection. I do not invoice customers (except larger commercial) and only give a receipt to smaller commercial (paid on the spot) and anyone who asks.

Having a good accountant is a bonus. One that really know his stuff. They can save you thousands over the year. There are however those that just want your money for little return !
