Title: Best van
Post by: paul13 on November 20, 2013, 03:21:07 pm
My father has now become a w/c and the disputes have
started already ;D

He needs a van for two men using trolley/back pack with water containers
trad tools ect, hes looking at a 13cdti  vauxall combo ::)roll not a great idea, in my opinion.

I was thinking ford transit size.

Would appreciate some advice on good reliable vans looking at 11/12 plates maybe new.

My Berlinglo Multispace is perfect don't need a seperate family car and is plenty big enough for 210 litres of water plus another 100 for back pack plus all the other gear.

Not really any 'bad' vans anymore in terms of reliability. If your father is planning on only using a trolley and backpack system, a combo sized van would be fine, especially the current fiat doblo based version. These come in 2 versions, 2000 (750kg payload) or 2300 (1000kg payload), also swb, lwb and lwb high roof versions. You can get some cracking deals on these and the doblo. I have a transit connect lwb, it has a 900kg payload, you might get some good deals on these as there is a new model just out.

Waiting on new shape which is next year. :D

Combo is too small. I do a day out of mine. Two men no chance

Replace with single mass fly wheel and updated clutch. Little bit of neutral vibration but it's not bad.

If he's a tradder he would be better off with a Combo?Berlingo sized van.. Transits are too high for lifting ladders on and off all day

Pity you didn't post this last week, av just sold an 11 plate Doblo Maxi, decent vans, terrible for parking tho as they have a rubbish turnin circle. Av just bought a VW Caddy, but too early to give a review, one thing a have noticed tho is the road noise, due a think to not havin a solid bulkhead.

Is your combo lwb hi top?
How much water do you carry?

To be fair I haven't been in one but I'm used to lwb hi top transit and its jam packed.

Care to talk us through your set up Diamond?  What's in the boxes under the hose reels, for example?

In the box is two 110ah battery's , behind the reels two 100 psi pumps with pure freedom controllers, one split charger to do both battery's, three pole hangers, hose in the middle is a drain hole for water. 650 ltr tank, a friend done the wiring for me as he works a bott, bott racking made for bt. And speed line floor took about two weeks to do mate.
