I have just had my renewal through and for the first time ever they have said they can only insure insure as long as there is no water tank fitted!
So can those of you that ratchet strap your tanks in and have declared it please tell me who your insured with. Thank you.

If the tank is held in with ratchets, then it isn't 'fitted' it's just restrained cargo. Still advisable to tell the insurance company though ;D

Well thats what Ive been going with, and I HAVE ALWAYS MENTIONED IT AND NO ONE HAS BEEN BOTHERED.
But now its actually being mentioned by the insurers, I need to seek out an insurer that is ok with ratchet straps. Im now for the first time thinking about a fitted tank, only thinking mind you and wont be done in time for renewal even if i do go that route.
Any ideas anyone?

All of the insurance companies are asking about this now, water tanks etc. It can be expensive if not with a specialist broker, and if you don't tell them about it then it invalidates your insurance. (And don't just tell them on the phone, you need to get it added to the policy wording and sent to you)
Best bet it is to go with a specialist broker. I went with Alexander Swan, I pay £85 a month which covers the van, and the system is covered for replacement with like-for-like replacement and fitting cost (pure2o). And poles are covered.
I had a laugh at direct line's quote, they also wanted to know about water tanks and how they're secured.

If a tank is bolted in its classed as a modification, surly if it's strapped in its just cargo, carriage of own goods and you do not need to tell them what you are carrying unless is hazardous materials.
I just insured my van with Adrian flux with a bolted in tank for £480. Maybe give them a call

I've just been told emphatically by Aviva that they don't insure vans with water tanks.

I was told exactly that about 2 years ago.
But some forum users on here said that Aviva had insured them!
I do sometimes wonder if the insurance person on the end of the phone knows exactly what they are talking about sometimes?

Just checking my policy now with them.
-
Just been on web chat. They checked my policy and I have just been email
Confirmation my water tank is covered.
When we took out the policy I was asked about modifications. Is the tank in a cage. Is the tank more than 650L is it baffled and is secured.
So why would they ask all them questions for then not to accept it ???
I worked with insurance for nearly 5 years. It will be a simple case of one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing.

just insurered my 4th van with a plan £388 strange this time his said that has the tank be installed by a profesional I said yes but i've installed it myself.

Ha ha!
Just don't have an accident mate, insurance companies are robbing bar stewards and they will most likely say you're not covered!

He only has to display competence.
He may have a background in mechanics...
Who's to say who is professional?
Imapct43 used to say they were 'professional' but the truth is they were as professional as many others on here.
