Title: What do you use?
Post by: steve123 on November 09, 2013, 10:12:47 am
do you use a cloth to hold your hose as you reel in or let it run through your hands?

In the summer I just use my hands but as it gets colder and wet I tend to use an old towel.
I am getting fed up with constantly having to wash a filthy towel or find a new one so am thinking of buying in a big box of rags just for this job

Any one tried this or got any better ideas?

I use good old Wilko gardening gloves all year round!

Of all the problems that people encounter, i think yours is the most serious....
You must lose a huge amount of sleep....

I use an old rag, sometimes i may wash the rag but considering i only use it to reel the hose in its not essential to.
To avoid the problem altogether, use a trolley/backpack

Towels.
I've got 5.
In black to match the van.
Wipe the pole hose down each time then wind the hose in through it.

Did you get out of bed the wrong side today or is it that time of month?

I use a microfibre cloth to hold on to the hose as i reel it in if there is muck on it from the grass where its
been raining, it also saves your hands from getting filthy.

I wear gloves all year round. I just change the gloves depending on how cold it is but they are all water proof. So basically the gloves get dirty but my hands stay clean (and most importantly dry and warm).

I brought a big bag of rags for around £12

A great buy they came as 1 x 3 ft pieces which we cut in half for ease of use, they are all the same colour and material ( rough cotton type ) we have about 20 on each van at any1 time that are clean once a month I wash the dirty ones and still have over half a bag left still unused

on a serious note. when the hose has been trailing on the floor . you could imagine how many germs/bacteria that could contaminate your hose. for example dog dirt/ urine. sick . you never really know what the hose is going through, even if it has been cleaned up .. then it gets on your hands urghhhh.....

I hope there's no window cleaners on this forum with OCD about clean hands.

I'm a bit OCD.
Plenty of baby wipes and hand sanitizer!

This is what I am thinking of getting. it just seems a much easier way, Gloves are ok but sometimes the hose is covered in mud so whatever is used gets in a right mess.

Do you have a link for where you got them please Darran?
