They have been around ages, what's brought on the sudden interest in their shenanigans?

I know someone who had them in. They said they felt sorry for the guy. He was rushing around, sweating and seemed like he was in a complete panic. Not sure what the staff model is but I bet they don't make much themselves, or rather could earn a lot more for less hassle on their own.

They started off in south wales and have been doing their 50% off bullpoop for about 5 years or so. I have not seen their vans around here now for quite some time, they have branched out into other areas
People are not idiots and once they have had several 50 % off leaflet through their door from the same people and seen the same add year in year out it does not mean a lot. Most of us know the folly of putting prices on websites and leaflets. Do not worry keep selling quality service, and keep your customers. In south wales several carpet cleaners were collecting the fridge magnets that they left with customers, why did they not call smart clean back. Customers cost too much to get in the first place. Let them carry on I have seen loads of people with the same game plan over the years.

I have one of their fridge magnets too Peter, has a picture of a duck, and their invoice, says "your now a customer just quote your postcode" they wont be though, used us day after the clean as they wasn't happy with their work.
Plus a few that moved their furniture for them not to turn up. Not good for reputation.
Long term you need repeats, its harder than most think to get repeats nothing less than a first class job gets repeats, and it's the repeats that keep you going through a recession.

Add the cost of a van and all the extra equipment and vat that goes with a TM and you won't be far off £30k.
