Title: poaching
Post by: pristine window cl on October 26, 2013, 06:06:52 pm
What do you think of this, did a big posh house for the fist time other day, the house had never been cleaned and is two yrs old, so quite dirty. However my hot water system made easy work of it.
5 minutes after I left a guy knocked her door, telling her that he cleans all the house around here ,                  (which he does not )and,  why did she not call him, and that he could do a better job, etc. Now I left the property gleaming, so, a brave claim.
I am really angry with this guy his company for those of you that may be in this area  is S R cleaning services in Blackwater , Camberley ,Surrey.
I would never knock a door after another window cleaner. Thankfully she sent him away with a BIG flea in his ear after he claimed I did not have hot water, and she knew I did.

I want to speak with them, what do you think

Ignore them

What about? The weather? Just work your work and let him get on with trying to bully customers. If that's how he works, that's upto him. Or do you think you can change his attitude?

As with what Jim has said, ignore the mong. I've got some idiot here who wants to charge a third of what I do. Let him get on with it. They all crash and burn if they can't operate without undercutting or bullying.

It's a natural mong filter built in to this sort of game.  ;)

Leave it.
The house you cleaned-she may be a chatterbox and sing your praises to all those she 'lunches' with and cuss this numpty out.
The good will out-rest assured.
Don't lower yourself to this mongs level.

I've had it happen to me. I have never lost any customers as a result of this practice. He's actually done you a favour by advertising himself as a complete berk, thus advertising you as a conscientious pro who will do a good job without giving it large about yourself. You will probably pick up some new work there over the next few months, thanks to him.

Why don't you just have another beer then.

Never liked Kate Nash till I saw her live.

Different, yes.
I like it when duetted with Billy Bragg. She started singing Foundations and then they both kicked into New England. Fab.

Happens to us all!   I had a guy knock on my door today saying

'I was just cleaning next door and was wanting to know if I can clean yours too'    I just looked at him and said 'Erm... Next door uses me and I am a Window Cleaner buddy but Thanks for the offer'

These kind of people never win, they might get a few customers here and there, but they loose far more than they gain, so let it go, if you have done a good job and customer is happy, that customer appreciate your work and stay with you and you gain far more. THATS A GRANTEE, i have seen it so many times.

What you take from others, you loose ten times more, but what you give to others you gain hundred time more.

I did the same a couple of months back . I do 8 out of 9 houses in a cul de sac . The house I don't clean has been empty years . Anyway someone moved in and an arse hole canvasser fell lucky and got it and cleaned it . Luckily I called next time I was in the area and explained to the guy I did em all in the street . He rang the other windy and gave him the bullett and set me on . Happy days .

Look, you get all sorts in window cleaning: (in ascending order  ;D)

barry mallett (modified to add!)  ;D
druggies and crims
gangmasters
gardeners and handymen
firemen
jw part-timers
the bloke with 100K under  his mattress and a dewdrop hanging from his nose
retirees
ionic-believers
self employed legit windies
family business
empire builders
john  ;D

The trouble is there is cross pollination - the ex druggie crim that is empire building still reverts to type when under pressure (needs £50 to pay his enforcer at the end of the day) or the ionic believer who is desperate to get enough business to pay off his mortgage on his kit. So undercutters can come from both the bottom and the middle of the spectrum.

Anyway you heard it here first and I'm off to the garden to batten down the hatches for the biggest storm since Michael Fish said "it's not a hurricane but stick your wig down".

Michael.      mmmm, no I don't own the street, and he did not get the job off me. But is that what you would do then. Personally I think to watch me leave, and then do that is pretty low really, and not what any decent person would do. Fine, put a leaflet through door, but not knock and try manipulate the customer.
I thought we window cleaners had a code, don't we ?

Within my area there few of us who we both speak and respect each other customers and not knock on there doors but we will drop a leaflet like they do to ours and we even meet up on a Monday for Breakfast at Tesco :D but again that is why we often work with each other and I pass them work and they pass me work and we go golf and 5 a side football.

But you get window cleaners who think they can clean all the windows and will do everything to be the main player while in fact they get stopped in there shoes by trading standards for there doggy practice.

I've just realised that I've had jobs poached by someone on this forum.
It happens and it is irritating.

Personally I'd never intentionally poach/undercut anyone.
Not how I work and not the sort of customer I want.
