I'm thinking of getting a ibc tank and collecting the rain water from the down pipe off my roof of my house.
then transfer it to a pre filter then into the tank of my van, is this a good idea has anyone els done this, could it work, sorry for all the questions.

Lots of people do it, I'm considering it myself atm but I'm not metered so no incentive really.
It may not need to be filtered though, the rainwater coming off my roof is 006ppm, easily good enough to use unfiltered.
It would be a good idea though to place a couple of sponges in the downspout to save any pieces of slate or concrete from the roof to foul your water.

thank you for that deeege, great idea with the sponges.

You can go heavily into rainwater storage. With sand, filters, sponges, socks, stockings, pressure boxes etc etc etc.
I am going back to storing it next year as although water is not expensive compared to what you earn. It would be nice to do some of my larger houses with a really high flow knowing it aint costing me anything in water mohahhaha

Sunday night / Monday is supposed to be worst day with 90mph gales. Already planned to take Monday off. Tuesday and Wednesday look to be fine tho.

does the gutter have to be kept spotlessly clean?

I don't know ive put a stocking on each elbow joint to collect any bits, the tds in the tank at the moment is 015.

YOUR DOING IT WRONG, STOCKINGS GO OVER THE KNEE JOINT.

Realistically speaking, on an average yearly basis, how many litres a week can you harvest this way?
-
I'd say the average is pretty high.
How much you could actually use would be limited though.
Unless you've got loads of land and loads of IBC's on it.
I think if you live on an estate with the size of the garden they give you you'd be loathe to fill it with tanks to save a couple of quid a day.

collect water off my shed roof got a nice piece of perspex
attached to roof which i brush over every so often..i keep
