Title: Website repair needed
Post by: davep on October 13, 2013, 10:51:17 am: I had a site made earlier this year and there are problems with it. The guy that made it isn't answering emails or telephone calls ::)roll

It's a wordpress site too.

Can anyone recommend someone reliable to make these fixes?

It comes up server error when navigating

I can see the home page and some others but a lot of the pages are blank with ( 500 - Internal server error ) on them.

Try ringing from a different number and see if it's just you he's avoiding :P

What you can try right now is to disable all of the plug ins and then reinstate them one by one (in case one is causing a conflict).

Update your Wordpress version to the latest one as this can cause a problem as well.

I can access the "About us page" and the "contact us" page. I am now wondering if there is something wrong with the navigation (the URLs look a bit strange). I would have expected 404s rather than 500 errors though.

Try this (it's Ok it's reversible).

Go into the dashboard.

Go to "settings" > "permalinks" and check / click the radio button labelled Post name. Save the settings at the bottom of the page and refresh your browser.

Sometimes if a Wordpress site is built on a virtual server (like a normal html site) rather than directly online it can play up if you don't reset the permalinks.

Normally, I would go into the server at this point (but obviously, we have a big problem there).

Maybe your web guy has a temporary server problem?

I see Google only has the home, contact and about us pages indexed as well.
