5 cancellations in 2 days!!!
All on the same estate, all reasonably well established customers, no proper explanations given
It's a new build estate still under construction, I've already had a few cancellations there..
but 3 in a day's ridiculous!
I'm beginning to wonder if its something I'm doing wrong, but the rest of my round is unaffected.
Any ideas about what's going on??

ask them
-
somebody canvassing at a cheaper price?
-
your being undercut
-
Construction work could be dirtying the windows, your customers might be thinking
its a waste of money getting the windows cleaned before the building work stops.
Ben M is right you need to ask them.
-
Yes I will ask them, some left notes on the door, one cowardly person handed me an envelope with the cheque in, and lthen I found a little note inside, cancelling!
-
your being undercut

More than likely
-
No it wont be anything you have done! Its the nature of new build customers that havnt been customers for long..
Soon as a better price comes along they will walk.. Thats why i dont touch new builds.
-
Working in heavy winds and if it is on a building site your asking for trouble with heavy winds.
-
Well I'm glad I posted this on here, at least I have an idea whats going on now and can stop being paranoid!
I never experienced this under cutting thing before!
Seems like a daft idea to deliberately set out to obtain low paying jobs!
-
Some cancelled yesterday, so I don't think its the today's windy weather..
-
Canvassed and undercut.

It's a new build estate
Simple - The people who live there have no real money (as in actual cash)... Everything they have is on credit and they've over stretched to buy the house?

That's my experience too. New estates aren't a good area.
-
new housing estates are one of the worst, every up and coming windy in your area will canvass and leaflet drop them offering a cheaper price,
the type of people who live in them are up to there eyeballs in credit and have everything on tick
-
The eastern europeans have arrived on your estate and will now be doing your work for half of what you used to charge.
3 in the same day is no co-incidence. If it were some having a change of heart, it would happen one by one.
Expect more.

Yeh, happens all the time around here.
What a twonk. ;D ::)roll

Disadvantages of compact estate work they all know each other so if one person finds a cheaper person they tell the Neighbours as they feels they are doing them justice to save money
You can pick up rows in new estates but if you lose one it could be a domino effect too so trick is to make sure you are pricing well and get to know em all
-
I have found on new estates they either cant afford windy at all or they will only have the cheapest windy even if they dont do a decent job .
On the estates i clean i know that other windys are usually £2:00 cheaper than me lost a long term custy ( 8 yrs) the other week because he was not prepared to £8:50 for a 4 bed detached house . Mike

yup 100% accurate
-
how big is the estate? if its big big then if i was you id now canvass it ruthlessly ,whatever it takes dont give up on it . i agree many will be up to their eyes in debt but not every single soul , in between will be good earners its jus a case of finding them. you want the homes with cars year 08 Audi or newer, if its an Preg Galaxy on slicks in the drive just hurry on by
-
i did a bit of canvassing a few months ago on a massive new build estate when i was leafleting for my girlfriends shop.
absolute waste of time!i was pricing 4 bed houses with 2 three storey windows front and back at £25 on an 8 weekly frequency which i thought was a fair price.no chance they thought i was ripping them off! ::)roll
one guy said you can clean them if you can beat £8 which he said he d been quoted by another window cleaner. ::)rolli nearly told him to f*** off! >:(
there was a few trad lads on there already charging peanuts cleaning glass only. ::)roll

Ten bob millionaires 2 bmw s on drive new house and no cash ::)roll

I agree with a lot of what's been said already.
There's one estate not far from me which has probably been there for 5 years or so now.
Many of the properties upvc has never been cleaned and a fair few have green window frames and sills.
A result of the type of people who live there.......

Greedy bar stewards basically . Mike

I work for a builder on a new estate and earn stacks of cash.
I have canvassed the estate and now have 1 days work on there.
I first canvassed and picked a few young familys who just cant afford it but now have a good set of customers.
There is another windy who canvases vigorously as soon as the removal vans are there hes quoting them.
In the end they come to me at 2 or 3 quid dearer because they like there windows cleaned as the other bloke doesnt touch the plastics and aswell as missing windows he doesnt rinse.
I also find a lot of young couples get upto the eyeballs on these new houses and struggle as they have never had bills to pay before.they are very small overpriced houses that are never worth the money they pay for them.
