Hi, listening to all the guys that have the new breed of portys really has me thinking. I have a ProChem blazer and a ProChem portable. Like the sound of the portys with the auto fill and dump and with a good heater sounds like it would get the job done and save a fortune on petrol. Anyone gone from tm to porty and happy with there lot. Thanks

What do you mean by "save a fortune" you must be earning it if your spending it on fuel!! personaly if that is your only reason for wanting to downgrade i would suggest you stick with the t/m.

There's no progress in going backwards.
As Geoff says, if your spending money on fuel you must be reeping the rewards in productivity which you will lose if you go back to a porty.

So the only potential difference you see in productivity between your porty and TM is that you have to bucket fill your porty and if it were not for that productivity would be the same? ???
A good friend of mine bought what you describe as a 'new breed of porty,' with all the bells and whistles - and sold it a week later saying it would suck the smoke off a fAg.

If you have a TM and it does the job then stick with it... unless of course you are faced with work where a TM simply isn't practical, then one of the new breed portables would be a worthy purchase.

Ok, maybe these portys are not as good as I taught. Reading some if the yank forums , there's guys there that have Everest tm , but he raves about the mytee escape, so got me thinking?

From a performance perspective at the time my Jag and my prowler were pretty matched... (on shorter hose runs) thats when you have to ask yourself whats the point in lugging around a dead weight in the back of your van which has no real performance advantage over a porty!
At the moment my work load allows me to get away with my Enforcer, this is convenient as i can remove the equipment from the van if i have to use it for another purpose... if i had a TM i would have to buy a second vehicle.

You seem to have it in your head that there is a new generation of portable machines that can match TM's for power, performance and productivity. The problem portable machines have and always will have is that you can only generated so much power from one 13amp cable, about 2 horsepower. An entry level TM is 18 - 20 horsepower and more.
Then you have to consider not just the cost, but the productivity and marketing implications and then contemplate how you want to project your company to the buying public. Truck Mounts are worth there own cost purely from the extra sales they bring in from you having a TM and they also help with your usp and to glue your customers to you, who want, 'that big machine in the van!'.
So I wouldn't see it as a technical question, because I think you are asking yourself a business question and no one but you can answer that.

I still use my portable for upholstery and the odd flat that's 2 or 3 up but for everything else its a nightmare the difference is massive if you can afford it buy a secong hand truckmount.

Take for example this mytee portable and trailing booster ... this has the performance of a small truckmount .

In the UK this could be one cord for the main front machine , like the enforcer . and just a second cord for the twin vac booster . ( plugged into the same room )
If you want your 3000w of inline heat you simply plug into a separate circuit . Its really not that hard to utilize a second circuit . If im running two heated portables in the one house i would often ask politely if i could run an extension lead from the utility room . Never a problem .
There are not many high performance options for UK portables at the moment , i'd say they build them only when there is a demand . Likewise the ETM has a big future imo ...
but it will a while to catch on .... first perhaps run as an occasional second van setup .
The Escape has at least shown that it can be done with electric vacs and the advantages in running costs and general ease of maintenance .

Hi Guys
My business changed when I went TM, not only was the job faster and dare I say better, it was perceived as such by my customers.
Funnily enough customers used to say, 'that was quick' meaning I have paid a lot for your time, where as I hardly ever hear that now, even though I charge more and clean faster.

Its not just the massive heat and suction difference its when i get to a job I open my backdoor usually take about 75m of preasure of the reel attach it to my hydroforce walk into house and start prespraying its done in minutes that's the biggest difference for me no unloading porty then finding to 2 sockets then filling up.The downside for some might be the noise mine is realy loud but the louder the better for me it gets everybody looking out there windows to see what the noise is but nobody has ever complained.

So three cords if you want performance and heat. Apparently that is illegal.
But why not bother when you can have a proper truck mount with so much more power and performance that also doubles as a highly effective market system and USP booster ???
I know you sell these things John, so are bound to big up what few advantages they have up, however the reality is somewhat different if you're going to try and compare them to a truck mount.

Im not saying that all people with truckmounts do this... but... a few people i have spoken to over the past few months do exactly what Darren has posted.. walk in without vacuuming and straight into pre spraying.
With all that squirt and suck at your disposal is there not a risk of cutting out the other bits?

For the first 6 or 7 years I think I vacuumed every carpet I cleaned but I stopped that long before I got a truckmount now I prespray then TM4 then extract with a Prochem Quad Wand I think ive used my Sebo 36 about 4 or 5 times this year.

It's a fair question.
I had a Flexi 5 pile lifter which way out performs your standard commercial vacuum.
We did some tests on domestic carpets. Flexi 5 with a clean filter. Next to nothing in the Flexi filter, but after cleaning the carpet, the in-line filter to the TM (previously squeaky clean) has grit and junk in it which the Flexi had missed.
I think that poses the question, why waste time vacuuming a carpet with a tool that is a fraction of the power of what you are just about to clean it with? The contents of both filters IMO provides the answer.
