I priced the job up 1 x a month price( didnt even charge them extra for first clean)
I spend a good 30mins soaping up etc.
She comes out to pay and says " i dont think they need cleaning once a month"
I should of bit my tongue but i said "well i priced it up at 1x a month without a first clean as extra so i will have to charge you, and judging by the state they were on they need a more regular clean than once every 5 years
-
Did you check/ask that she wanted monthly before you started?

lol, we've all been caught like that at some point. That's why there are no exceptions to the extra charge on first cleans. ;D
Bet you never do that again. ;)

ask yor self why they were manky in the first place ??? she may be a bunny boiler
-
There's not much you can do about it happens to us all , I don't usually charge extra for first clean nut always ask if it a regular clean if not a price for a one of clean , just take it in your stride ;D

before I went off on one I said '' well you could have them cleaned every 8 weeks aswell but the price I have quoted for 1 x a month would have to change accordingly due to double the dirty and time take''
she said mm how about I ring you when I need them doing :o :o :o I have a good mind to go and egg them hahahah

Rarely happens now that I get stung. Filthy windows usually ring alarm bells unless the people have just moved in.

honestly it just boils my p*** , why cant people be honest and say look I cant afford X a month but can you just do a really good one off clean when you have time?
We give them a quality service and they just p us about.
thank god its only happened to me once in 3 years

It happensto everyone at some point. I do usually charge extra on first clean - unless my gut feeling says they are genuine about wanting a regular service. Gut feeling is usually right - but not always. However, even when it does happen, I've still earned more from the job than I would doing most things. So if it ends up being say £20 for an hour's turnover - so be it. Not ideal but that's one less person I need to deal with in the future.

yeah at the end of the day im not fully booked and had time but its the principle that annoyed me still made money obviously and it was only a few streets from were I live :)
-
we have started charging extra for first cleans and have not lost many because of this, I always had slight trepidation doing this before but now I enjoy them because of what we charge. if they are that bad they're that bad for a reason..!
unless they've just moved in.

You can not take it in your stride asking the customer if it's a regular job is a ridiculous approach.
We've all heard the one about the customer who tells you her sister wants a window cleaner there hasn't been one in her road for years turns out there is a cleaner in the road but they've never seen him or they messed him about so she is trying to get you there, ahh the old ones are always the best ;D ALWAYS charge more for first cleans look at it this way if they haven't been cleaned for 5 years then they have saved hundreds of pounds on window cleaning so why wouldn't they pay a bit more for a first time, if they refuse then that's nearly always a good indication that they will mess you about in the future.

I dont see a problem. Wether 4 or 8 weekly she wants them doing! She is a paying customer at the end of the day.
Id be more annoyed if it was just a 1 off. I dont charge more for 8 weekly over 4 as a lot of the 8 weekly customers have it 8 weekly due to not being able to afford every 4 weeks.

No mate she said' I don't think they need doing monthly'' so I replied well we do offer every 8 weekly aswell and she said '' well how about I ring you when they need doing'' LOL

My experience is as per Paul Coleman. Its happens - don't let it eat you up.
If you are asked to quote a house with dirty windows, the chances are that they have lived that way and will continue to do so. You are being used to clean the windows for a special occassion - visitors etc. When they tell you they have been looking for a window cleaner for ages, take that as a warning. Messers will always be messers. They stay the same - its the window cleaner that changes.
Charge extra for the first clean with a reduced maintenance clean. If they change the terms of the original agreement, you have lost very little.
I don't argue anymore, I just leave them thinking that I will do them as and when. I still will do them as a one off clean in the future if they phone, but at a premium price. TBH I think I have had only one person ring back in 9 years.
As Paul says, that's one less person to deal with. His is the voice of experience.

If I had turned away all my customers who had dirty window frames I would be out of business.
You need to remember that not all window cleaners clean the frames, so a property could have had a
window cleaner for years and the frames could still be filthy.
At the end of the day you still made more hourly than most.
When building a round treat all cleans as a opportunity to show how good your services are.
I wouldn't charge extra for a first clean until I had a full round and no longer needed the work.
If a neighbour thinking about taking you on gets talking to your customer then asks the price, she might
think your overpriced as you can be sure the customer wont tell her it was a one off price.
Look after your reputation first the money will then follow.
If this job leads to more work which it might do then what is there to complain about.
-
Even though i could do with 150-200 more customers, any customer who is underpriced or messes me around i bin yhem straight away or put their price up.
I know yo many people who have undercharged themselves and put up with messers and it always comes round to bite you.
Price high from day one, and do a good job its very rare i loose custys, except this one but that was a mistake from me not to charge extra
