what do the insurance company do with regard to the cost of the lost window cleaning equipment?
My poles, hoses, battery, tank, pump, resin, fittings, brushes, aquadaptor, squeegees etc are worth more than my van.

I don't think they pay out anything.
You can add them to your public liability insurance I think and then claim off them.

You can insure it separately.
It can be done on the van insurance or it can be done on the public liability as an add-on.
If you want additional insurance for the use of a WFP van while sorting out an insured loss, you will need to insure the kit with the same van insurer.
