Title: Sandbox ?

Just had a website built, and was told it would be in the sandbox for a few months . . . . please could someone educate me as to what this means please, as I feel a bit silly not knowing  :(

It was something brought in by Google to prevent spammers building new spammy sites and getting instant traffic to them. New sites go in the sandbox and get very little traffic initially. I think google's thinking behind this is that spam sites will be discovered whilst still in the sandbox and therefore not benefit from any significant traffic. A site will usually stay in the sandbox for 6-12 months but factors like adding too many links too quickly etc can put you back in there.
