Title: Could this be a record?
Post by: wayne zabel on August 26, 2013, 03:42:59 pm
Took a call this morning from a bloke who told me I'd cleaned his carpets a "few months ago"as he put it.

He told me his name and address and I told him I vaguely remembered doing the job.

He said there's a problem...............The carpet has come loose in the corner and its a bit wavy.He then said he thought that there was a stain there and he thought I'd probably rubbed too hard.

I asked him how long it had been like that and he told me since just after I'd cleaned the carpet.

As I was working on a job I told him that I was going to be working near by soon and I'd pop in to have a look.I said it probably just needs stretching back on the grippers.

I got home and went through my diary and the job was done on FEB 22nd !!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I also went back a week later and cleaned his suite and no mention of a loose carpet was made then ;D

I hope he doesn't expect me to foot the bill for a carpet fitter.

Do I hold the record for the longest time span for getting a call back? ;D ;D

sometimes we assume a lot without the full facts. it might just be he see's you as his expert on these matters.

you might be able to learn from this situation. dont go in with the thought that he is blaming you. act professional.

I have had times when I had thought i was getting the blame for something and it turned out otherwise and also the other way around when it was me and I had to admit i had not dont as good as job that day as i would normally would have.

as self-employed we dont have that extremal view on our work that you get when you have a boss. remember what it was like when your boss would tell you had done something wrong, not nice.

even if it not your fault tell him so put it right at no cost to hime and you would have done something nice today for someone. what goes around come around. your reputation locally is worth any costs

good luck
