Hi all. how's the best way to pay staff,by the day or by a percentage,if by percentage ,what would be a good daily percentage, taking in bad weather, and staff half days?
-
Percentage in my opinion.
I think you'll get a mixed response however.
When I first started, that's what I got.
It encouraged me to upsell conservatory roof cleans etc.
if on day rate there may be a tendency to plod and even pocket cash from extras.
A few lads on here do day rate +bonus which seems to work for them.

We do an hourly rate, but we know what we expect them to get done in the hour for each day so works well for us. If we had shirkers or "dragger outters" they would not be with us long. But we do pay a good rate plus bonus linked to quality of work and attendance so hourly rate works best for us.

i pay an hourly rate , i round up the hours at days end always
-
As a matter of interest, what's an average hourly rate???
I am looking into taking one one on but have no idea on how much to pay them... I want to reward a good days work but not to much or too little...
Cheers

i pay £7 and always guarantee 6 hours work . very good money if you are under 20

Minimum wage for the trial period (12 wks). By then you know if they will stick it and more importantly any good after that wage depends on wether they are driving/working as 2 man team etc..
Contracts are for 30 hrs per week (winter hours) our guys usually work 40hrs + from march to October

Thank you all,its just had to work it out the wages when it comes to rain, sometimes only work 2 hrs and the heavens opens.
-
was told yrs ago it should never be more than 40% for wages, this allows for the steady plodder worker - and a bonus of no more than 10% for staff that pull there finger out

start working in the rain, its the only way if you have staff .
unless its a real cats n dogs downpour we dont stop . i have a nice selection of waterproofs at hand in the van

No work no pay. If rain stops work we pay for hours worked only hours can be caught up later in the week
