Hi there, I got your details from Heather ***** (a friend of my wife Jennifer whose windows you clean). I have a leaking gutter round the back of my house, 3 ****** Drive Falkirk. I don't think it's a very big job. In the past I have fixed it by going up ladders and snapping the gutters back together but I no longer have ladders. Would you be able to give me a quote for how much it would likely cost for you to fix it for me? Thanks, Brian.

Rent out your ladder Stu, for 50 quid, or send your apprentice. ;D ;D ;D
-
It's funny how people just assume us window cleaners do other jobs that involve ladders.
I got a call the other day asking for a quote so I drove round thinking it was a quote for window cleaning but when I got there they wanted the tiles on their roof cleaned ???
-
quote for the job then try and talk him into a 4 weekly

Sounds like a genuine question from a genuine person. Take it at face value and quote it. Nothing complicated here

tell him off ;)

just tell him its not a service that you offer
-
sorry I know how I will answer, just wondered how you would
like a written response

If I was a ladder user and happy to do the job and I was driving by and it was literally clicking a gutter back in (ie 5 minute job) I'd say a tenner.
If I couldn't be bothered I'd say.
Thanks for the enquiry but my insurance only covers me for window cleaning/I don't use ladders/I'm too busy with my regular window cleaning for extra jobs, so I will be unable to quote for the job.

So simple, if you just clean windows say no. Why the debate?

I am not having a debate, just wondered what your reply would be
malc yes that has occurred to me ;) had a look at address and the second will be used, although I will miss the insurance bit
although I was thinking on leaving a polite option of "if it is worth my while I may change my mind" but worded politely and well to be worth my while ;D and probably not theirs
-
my reply would be i only do things like that for my window cleaning customers. who cleans your windows?
-
Any job I'm not interested in taking on I usually say my insurance doesn't cover it ;D
-
sorry mate im stacked out with window cleaning work.cant you borrow a set of ladders from a neighbour?
this is what i would say. ;) :) :)

I have avoided a situation such as this in the past.
I went to quote a house for window cleaning and then they told me there was a problem with the guttering leaking on one of the joins, and they asked me if I could sort it.
I gave the quote for window cleaning but declined to get involved with repairing the guttering as I didn't want to be responsible for any on going problems that might of occurred afterwards.
I think I made the right decision for me.
And I never heard from them again........

Do the job its easy money and stop being so full of pooe. You all go on s if its a cheek to ash.

I would text him the number of a local handyman/roofer, and politely decline the offer of work.

But some people expect that because you "repaired" their guttering that any further problems they might encounter are your responsibility.
Hence why I avoid these situations, even though it probably is an easy fix it's not necessarily easy money if they expect you to go back and resolve another issue later on because "you didn't fix it properly last time".
