Title: Canvassing Getting Harder
Post by: geefree on July 19, 2013, 08:36:34 pm
Hi,

Been out canvassing a few nights lately, and i think its harder now than it ever was.

Before wfp , you could pick them off like cherries,  you could see lots of dirty glass and worse frames,

Now lots of house are gleaming, and i feel its all since wfp has become more and more cheaply available,

And customers prefer it having nice cleaming frames and doors, hence their reluctance to change .

In the days of only scrims and squeegies, a customer would chop and change until they found a good window cleaner who does a good job, hence canvassing was a little easier, for if they had a poor cleaner they would try someone else.

Now the results with wfp are so good, most houses use and stick to it, and who wouldnt?

But i feel its making canvassing harder now ,as there are more people willing to come into this game, and use a system which beats ladders hands down.

Just a thought
 ;)

Hi,I am trad and I have picked up work from wfp cleaners due to sub standard work.

I cleaned a rental property last week inside & out, the lady thought I was expensive before I started.
Sent a text to say I had sent the invoice for which she had already paid, reply back,"I wished you covered my area, he's cheaper than you but uses a ladderless system and the result is not as good."
I said I would give a price when I'm next your way. reply "yes please"
Regards Hotsteam

I canvassed 1 road on friday and picked up 5 new custys out of 100 houses.spoke to about 20 people.so 1 in 4 hit rate is very good.
Already have 3 up there.
Theres about another 3000 houses on this estate.i will be knocking the doors.
Hoping for about 80 more up there.

The problem is that a lot of new wfp guys and some older actually believe that all you have to
do is wash and rinse everything between the bricks and it will come out gleaming.
There are a lot of wfp cleaners coming along but most are rubbish.
I don't canvass anymore but remember canvassing properties that wouldn't even give me a
chance because they didn't like the finish achieved by their last wfp cleaner.
To be honest I wouldn't like to be starting up again in the area where I work its far too saturated.

hi I'm a newbie. I'm a bit puzzled when I hear that a lot of new wfp window cleaners will probably go out of business soon because they are not doing a good job. do you really need that much skills or experience to do a decent job using wfp?

hey everyone had to get started one day. I do believe that as long as you respect other window cleaners by not trying to undercut them or pinching their work . It s fair game! lots of competition because let s face it it s not rocket science to clean windows lol

The rocket science bit comes into when not cleaning windows - the glass cleaning only a small percentage of running a great window cleaning business

yes, you're absolutely right. I'm sure it must be far from easy to run a very busy window cleaning business. that's probably why if things go ok I don't intend to expand lol

In every trade there are good and bad operatives. People who care about doing a good job and those that don't give a stuff and happily take the dosh.
If you do a top job and have decent people skills you'll be fine and will continue to pick up work. If you're in the first category you have nothing to worry about  ;D
