Hi Everyone, my name is Jim & i have just signed up to this forum...
I have an Ashbys Ninja... Its about 12 years old now...I bought it to start up a cleaning service, but since i am not very good at starting a bussiness it never took off....
However i kept the machine & the kit & just do carpet cleaning for family & friends & there friends etc...
Anyway the reason why ive started this post is because i would like to understand a little more about the internal workings of the ninja...
I understand now how to change the water pump (i recently did this) for a new one....
I also understand how to change the vac motors... " " " "
What i dont understand at the moment is.... my cooling fan is not working anymore....
The symptoms are as follows.... I was round my ex girlfriends house last week cleaning her carpets & one of my vac motors fried itself amidst a whole lot of electrical smelling smoke... so i instantly turned everythig off & took it back to my place to service it... & thats when i fitted the new 1500w lamb electric motor.... also i fitted a new waste gate valve too... anyway whilst i had the machine open i noticed that the earth lead to the old 1500w motor had come off (which no doubt caused it to die) this is due to the wiring being so tightly installed inside there that when opened up there was unessasary tension on the earth leads (i have since rectified this, so now when i open up the machine there is no tension on any of the electric internal leads...)
So everything that i bought new has been sucessfully installed using the logic of replace like with like exactly as it was before... & its all good! :)
Only does anyone have any ideas re the fan? it was working fine before the vac motor blew up & its not stiff in any way, so i know it has not siezed... I could buy a new replacement fan (no problem)
But i feel that it may not be the fan itself that has died too but maybe something else?
I will prob phone ashbys in a bit, but since they are a bussiness & make money from servicing, i doubt they would be willing to give me much tech info....

a lot of repairs like for the 1 year old machine and not a busy operator ???
looks like you are using the machine not correct or your one is some unlucky one

Its a 12 year old machine matey.... like it says in the post :)
& my skills as an operator have nothing to do with my not understanding of the internal electrics.... Its like my van... i know how to drive it & change basic parts... but when it comes to electrics??? pretty much clueless! lol
Ive just checked the lead that connects to the fan & there appears to be electricity running through it, as my finger slipped onto the metal red prong? & i got fried with the ac... so maybe it is just the fan that needs replacing after all... but my gut instinct tells me its something different... I rang ashbys & they told me that the fan works independantly from all the other bits & bobs in there.... so im trying to get my head around the odds of the cooling fan & the 1500w vac motor dying at the same time... dosent feel right
Does anyone know where i could find an electric schematic of the ninja? or anything like that?
-
firstly i would determine if its getting power ... easiest way is disconnecting the fan and using a voltage tester , phase tester or multimeter on the wire ends ...
if there is power replace fan ... if there is no power trace the wire back to see whats in its path that could be causing the power break .... should the fan power on as soon as you plug the machine in ... or do u have to switch on the vacs first ... if so its going through a switch ... could be loose connection ...
-
Hi, yes ive done a multimeter test now & i see that there is power getting to the ends of the leads.... so i am now confident that it is the fan unit itself that has the problem... so i will be ordering a new one :)
Ashbys quoted me a price inc vat & carrage £50.28
But ive found one on ebay for £27.00 inc delivery..... Hmmmm choices choices! lol
Could still use a schematic for the electrics of the Ninja though.... be useful for future reference :)

make sure its not blocked with fluff before you buy a new one as this will stop it going round, give it a clean and see if this cures it.

If I was you I would find a local repair man and see if they can help
Your equipment needs to be pact tested
Also get the guys on here to teach you the business
You will find loads of posts on start ups
If you take it in small steps like find one customer a week then two then three you will not be disulisoned
Its when people start up expecting to find 20 a week within a month of starting

James ,
I would say put a new condenser in , that was the trouble when my fan went on Ninja .

Which side & what bit is the condenser?... I am still learning & if my photo does not appear, i will find the program which allows me to upload it..
Cheers Jim

(http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1374685233_IMG081.jpg) Is it in this Area? Also if anyone can name the various bits they see in this pic, that would be useful too... :)

James ,
Phone Ashbys at Sittingbourne and speak to Paul in maintenance or ask Derek .They will tell you where the condenser is .
