I thought it was harder to rank a .com than a .co.uk ???
-
I would think if someone entered carpet cleaning such and such it would come up regardless.
-
Depends where your host is located.
co.uk is naturally going to be assigned for UK relevant searches but if you have a .com and your host is not in the UK you would probably find it quite difficult
-
It's less of an issue than it used to be because you can tell google where you are based and Places is going to make a much bigger mark anyway, but if you are starting from scratch it would be a bit daft to buy a .com if you are UK based.
-
You just tell Google where you want it to show.... from Google Webmasters.
Set a geographic target:
On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want.
Click the gear icon , and then click Site Settings.
In the Geographic target section, select the option you want.
If you want to ensure that your site is not associated with any country or region, select Unlisted in the drop-down list.
-
No mate, you just keep paying the fees, thanks.
-

John the whole purpose in getting exact match domains is to get the rank number 1 in Google, with very little seo, as unless you can do the seo yourself, it becomes expensive
Type in to google
Carpet Cleaning Croydon
See who is number 1 it will be carpetcleaningcroydon.com notice the .org in position3 with .co.uk no where to be seen.

Are you just buying these to make a quick buck out of your fellow carpet cleaners?
Seems a bit immoral to me to register domain names just to sell them, what about the carpet cleaners in these areas should'nt they be allowed to have the chance to get these domain names without you trying to make cash out of them.
-
how much is carpet cleaning hampshire . com?
-
Thats what I meant Vernon.
-
How much are they then Vernon ?

I say hats off to the guy for having the initiative to buy them up and take the gamble.
He also knows when to cash in his chips.
http://www.seobook.com/googles-matt-cutts-talks-down-keyword-domain-names
There's also a big difference between an acquired domain name sat doing nothing and a domain with and active website that has gathered age.
-
I would imagine that nearly all the first bunch will rank, simply because there is very little competition for those terms. If there are only a few pages aimed at those terms, how can Google not rank them? As Wynne says, they are worth a great deal more if the domains have a few years of Google trust (and no penalties).
The Croydon comparison is a bit misleading. The .com has at least three (possibly five) years of history whilst the .co.uk is a holding page. If the .co.uk had the same content and trust, it would be right up there with the other two.
-
I presume non of the names have any links pointing to them? or age?

We intended to develop the sites as they were in our cleaning area. And if I was doing as you suggested it is business, nothing inmoral about it. And some that are not in our area we bought as we had cleaners living in that area.
-

You can check the links if any for free in ahrefs.com
You can check the PR of them in http://www.checkpagerank.net/ for free.
And you can check the domain in http://www.domaintools.com/ for free.
And to see if Google has deindexed it just type in the complete domain into the Google search it will return the domain, if it doesn't then it probably been slapped by Google under the panda update
-
How much are they then Vernon ?
That domain is not available through me
But the others are£99 + reregistration, most of them are registered with godaddy.com

Most of these site can be pushed up to number 1 with £500 in seo and can be in google local for free

Shamefulness profiteering.
Having said that £100 would be the limit of what there worth.
On a side note it has been made illegal to register ie. 'asda' then sell it stupid amounts, now the law says that illegal as 'asda' has a right to this domain.
prior there was some one bought 'sex.com' and sold it for a couple of £mill, nice work eh!

All these sites were purchased to develop, and in my opinion its not immoral to buy a domain and resell it for a profit.
Business is business. And there are business out there selling domains for a profit. And most of the registrars advice you to buy up and the .co.uk .net .info and any other TLD prefix to protect your brand.
But have you not sold a domain??
-
there's only one reason why I would want to buy one of these domain names IF THEY HAD LINK JUICE AND AGE!! which I presume they don't.
nothing to do with the area covered either.

sex.com in not a brand domain, nor are any of the domain that I have. if you bought asdacheapfood.com or any other TLD then they can force you to hand over it the over domain, without paying a penny, as you would be infringing there trade mark
Bill gates tried to claim a site mikerowesoft.com from a young lad I think he offers $10.00 They settled out of court, as his name was Mike Rowe
I put price of £99 in an early post, but we payed a lot more for carpetcleaninginlondon.com and carpetcleaninglondon is for sale at $11,000.00
carpetcleaninginlondon.com is the domain I am going to concentrate my seo efforts on. I belong to a domain club and the renewal is $2.95 a year so if I don't sell all of them I will put content on them and point links to my money sites.
I did see a prominent member selling domains, but I cannot find the site he advertised them on, so cannot put his name in the posts. AHHHH just found the site, they are not selling but renting the domains, which is I personally think is that you would make more over 10 years, here is the url

I have some high Pr domains as well I have sites from PR2 - PR9, nothing to do with areas some have 25,000 links pointing to them.
-
If you wanted to make money you should have bought into another industry, ha, carpet cleaners are poor.
You should have went into other areas. :D
£100 is a months profits to most poor c/c;ers

Perhaps you are poor from carpet cleaning, if you are earning £100 a month, I suggest you put your machine on ebay, and head down to the job centre.
I have had a wonderful living, from carpet cleaning and manufacturing carpet cleaning equipment.
In fact anyone that is earning £100 a month and live in the areas that I have put in my fist list of domains call me. My guys are taking home £800 a week, less their van, chemicals, machine and diesel and insurance etc
-
What do you know Vernon.
If I had them domains, I would GIVE them away. but thats just me.
-
Business is business. I am a business person. If a business does not make a profit, then you only have a hobby.
My post are nothing personal, I am just defending myself.
I have put the url of the person renting domains on here which will cost you more in the long run
http://www.cleaningwebsites.co.uk/
But looking again at the site it says SOLD again some of the names, so that refers that they have sold the domains, not rented them as i previously said.

He said £99 plus their registration fee.
To be honest, it matters very little having the keyword in the domain. If your starting from scratch you can do just aswell or better with a shorter, brand-able, more memorable domain name.
-
so £99 for www.carpetcleaninghampshire.com or £7 for www.carpetcleanershampshire.co.uk ? surely its a no brainer. am i missing something here? just asking like, be interesting to know.
-
carpetcleaningampshire.com domain is not available

carpetcleaningampshire.com domain is not available

same as tony says . I have been led to believe recently that having a keyword in the domain name doesn't matter a poop to google . if I remember rightly alex said the same thing at the tacca day

Band q - diy.com

Who is Alex
Im no SEO expert, but as I said in a previos post, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
Now the .com is in 1st place the domain has a PR of 0
And the .org has a PR of 1
This means that .org links are stronger than the .com, but .com is still out ranking them
The same as other domains on 1st page
carpetcleaningcroydon.com
Backlinks: 8
Referring
Domains: 3
carpetcleaningcroydon.org
Backlinks: 209
Referring
Domains: 26
******cleaning.co.uk

Im ready to put my money where my mouth is, money talks bull sh*t walks
Pick a domain and I will get it to Number 1-3 in google or maybe number 1. Then people may want to buy a domain that is ranked number 1 instead of just buying a keyword rich domain
-
Is that without doing anything other than throwing a page up? Would be interesting to see what happens.
-
My www.dry-fresh.co.uk has had no conscious effort to get it to the top of google at all , it was built by a 16 year old girl for a school project , no 2 in sheffield!!
-

You have to throw a few links at it. If it was that easy, everyone would be No 1
-

What search term are you targeting??? " Carpet cleaning in Sherrield"
I see that your site has had links thrown at it about about 200 in the last month, which shows that a domain that is keyword rich needs less that yours has had. As posted in my earlier post. Like I said I am no SEO expert, but also I am no SEO fool.
-
Shall we get CARPETCLEANINGBEXLEY.COM to the top 3
Has zero links(http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/1374514602_ccb.JPG)
-
Yeah go for the easiest in your list :-*
Watch you don't get one of your names penalised.
-
It was at the top, and had no links pointing to it, but go on pick one
-
First day 2 links showing up, but not in the first 250 in google.
-
Hi Vernon.
Just out of interest, am I right in thinking you run a few carpet cleaning vans?
-
Guys
Its amazing whats sill about i just got in the last month
www.cleaning-carpet.co.uk/
now the trick here is with sub domains like
www.town.cleaning-carpet.co.uk
you only need one and you can subdomain as many towns as you like. as long as you keep your content managed in silos its not spam.
