Title: Pest control - wasps anyone else provide this service ??
Post by: G O Cleaning on July 07, 2013, 01:29:17 pm
Vast majority of our work is roof cleaning, basically fed up of relying on 'local' pest control companies, on numerous occassions I have had to use their equipment due difficult access etc also causes delays on jobs.
We are Pa1 / Pa6 registered I believe this will cover us chem wise but will confirm, several companies online selling equip / chems... after any advice from experienced guys tele poles pumps etc. Not looking at selling addition service as such, but to simplify our 'works' as it will allow our company to deal with any problems, Thks Mike

I do some pest control, I did the basic training with Killgerm which was 4 days sat in a classroom. Your Pa1 Pa6 won't cover you in theory. I use Ficam D to kill wasps but don't get into killing honey bees as thats a whole different story in RA and control measures which will lead to prosecution if you get caught out.

Not interested in theory... spoke to a company last yr when it was a weekly problem they stated pa etc would allow us to purchase Ficam  / spray will re check, wasp problem has been far less this yr presumably due to harsh winter ... as clearly stated will only use it on wasps not bees for roofs.

Ficam D is a dust - Ficam W is the spray and won't be best at killing wasps

Carl, how did you come to that conclusion.. I have talked to a few suppliers this morning explained what I wanted to spray etc plus hold PA1 / PA6 all have said fine to purchase and use Ficam D. Looking at hs guidelines it only states that you need training to use pesticides ie NPTC

So if that is the case my pest training will cover me to spray weed killer - I doubt it ! Ask your insurance if your covered if you use the dust and a beekeeper points the finger your way. Personally I don't really care what you do - why come on here and ask if you are sure you know the answer already ?

Probably not Carl but I suppose it depends what your ''pest training'' actually covered, but as you know to spray 'weed killers' - pesticides commercially you need Pa1 / pa6

Nice  ::)roll, I hoped you would come back with some actual straight forward facts i.e. you need this cert...  blah blah (something similar to Pa1... ) and not Carl says no.  ::)roll

I came on here to ask the question, I didnt know the answer but i do now.

hi mate, we do wasps, its worth doing the course tho, pest solutions ltd at Bury St Edmunds run a one day course, also it's not illegal to dust bees, there are a few extra dos and donts but if they become a pest or are damaging property and can't be safely removed then you can dust, the course does cover a lot of basics ie, loft surveys, bats, lagging the water tanks, biology of the wasp, hornet etc, the bloke who runs the busines is called Graham and used to be the training manager for Rentokill, they will also give you a good indicator of what equipment to carry and will also offer advice over the phone on any awkward situations.

Hope this helps

Graham
