Title: Merlin ro
Post by: lee_dewing on June 26, 2013, 07:40:18 pm
Hi everyone.

anyone on here using a merlin ro system.

I know they waste a fair bit; my current ro is from ro-man 200 gpd.

But finding icreaseingly slow use to be 24 ltrs an hour now about 18ltrs an hour.
Have changed all pre filters and ro-membranes. (my ro is 8 years old)

Pressure has dropped think was 75 psi now about 50 psi thought it was the cold weather in winter but now summer and no change in water pressure.

Don't know how many litres an hour a merlin runs at but heard very quick.

My RO setup is at my parents in their garage my place no garden.

Also thought merlin would be better in winter bring indoors to protect from frost then re-hook up when temps rise and because fast water production wouldn't need to be on for hours.

OH yeh Parents are NOT on a water metre.

So if anyone can give a thumbs up to a cheapish merlin and let us know price and price on perishables and how long filters last.

Thanks Lee

Hi lee run a merlin for many years and its a great RO to have for speed and not being on a water meter for best results you will need to have good pressure - I boosted mine to 80 PSI and was getting approx 100 litres per hour of pure from 330 TDS tap water coming out at 18

It is essential to add some per filters a sediment filter at the very least but to be safe a sediment and carbon filter as the carbon filt in the merlin is only rated to cope with a demand of 10 gallons of water per day ( these filters and housing are easy to buy and you would need them for any RO system ) the merlin carbon per filter is around £18.00 and is changed every 6 months as any carbon filter should be.
My membranes lasted nearly three years - and when I wanted to change them they were around £110 each and you needed 2 but I've seen someone selling them for £70 each so makes for a better deal

Hope this helps lee

WCM cost me just under 300 notes 4 years ago

Here's a link to the best price I've seen for the membranes

Thanks monkey man.
I am considering this as you might see my just posted topic on my RO playing up.

Like the idea of the Merlin not cheap though ::)roll

Out of intrest what's the waste ratio?

75% down the drain.
Should we feel extremely guilty or do the water companies recycle all this?

thanks lee
