As a newbie, I`ve been doing pretty well in the month since I started. Today I have a rug to do as part of a job and it has a very long pile - on the training courses that I have done, I don`t recall being told how to treat them, so I assume that I treat them as any other rug, however, it occurs to me that I might need to do something different, so I`m asking you experienced guys out there, is there anything that I should do different than when I do an ordinary rug?

If you mean the flokati type, with long "hair" maybe 3 or 4 inches long, then I've been surprised at how well they can come up. You need to use a repeated back & forth scrubbing action, going over every bit numerous times, but quickly (and ideally in a couple of different directions). You can get lego bricks, twigs, god knows what, hiding under the hair - once you've got all of them up, you're about there.

flokati is a traditionally hand made rug from wool and these would normally need assistance in drying. They are hand washable and many people will attampt this in a bath. They are not that common and whatyou are more likely to encounter is the synthetic "shaggy rugs" that are the fashion at the moment. I have not encountered any problems with this type of rug but there have been posts on here of people of problems of them "smelling" after cleaning.

He's new, I doubt he's talking about anything hand made, just the crappy old things they sell in the Range for the dog to sleep on and get all smelly. I try to avoid these, just like your course did. ;)

If it's not too big I tend to use hand tool on these, gets more moisture out.

Max's comment reminded me about the chandelier part we found in one of those rugs. The client thought it was lost, she was well chuffed when we took the rug back with the missing crystal sellotaped to the wrapper.
