Im to a stage where im always behind.no time to canvass or leaflet and turning work down.
im thinking about taking someone on for 2 days a week for a start to see how it goes.
Am i ok to take them on as self employed?as i want to see how it goes for a few weeks.
If it works out will take them on full time.
plus if there a grafter i will get them canvassing and leafleting if works going well.
i was thinking 7 or 8 pounds a hour to start with.i have a bloke who used to help me when busy.hes a decent worker but too many family problems.

better to have 2 parttimers than 1 fulltimer who might go sick leavin you unable to cope . if a parttimer goes sick you have another to cope
i employ 3 parttimers who work 4 or 5 days a week , they started at first on 2 or 3 days then after a few months step up a day as work flowed in
i would not go down the self employed route for two reasons 1. not many will do their taxes properly and you/they will end up in a mess at year end.
2. they might go on their own and end up as a competitor
employing on the books is not as scarey as it might appear

Im just thinking for about 6 weeks pay them cash.
Then see what happens and go down the employment route.

yes, i think i did that at first / cash /
the thing that many ,includin me,dont think about once you take on workers is that it steps up your game and you are pushed forward yes, but you can no longer have a lay in bed or casual days off - folk are now depending on you for their livelihood so you gotta get your act together and you are now in it for the long haul so to speak
the big plus will be that physically you will feel better from the very first day the worker takes his share of the work off your shoulders

I agree will hopefully stop me having days off when i want and commit me to do a full day everyday.

I'm thinking of having a part timer next year 3 days a week
I don't want the hassle of being VAT registered
So 77k IMO doesn't give enough leeway for a full timer but part time could work helping me to maximize on the vat threshold
Anyone employ one person 3 days a week, do they want more and leave or is there people who need this?
As above what do you pay ?

lads or girls who are at college fit in well with parttime working. you have to rearrange the workload so it fits in with their college days but thats easily done i have found.
lad who works for me has just passed his final nvq3 exams after 2college years and i reckon he will be leaving once he gets a job in his trade, im proud that he has passed and if he goes will look to employ a similar type of lad.
my other parttime workers are two girls of 17 who are great workers but dont want to study
