do some hozelock fittings stop the water flow when you separate the male from the female? when i unplug my hose from the van loads of water gets lost!!!!

They are called "aqua stop" or "water stop". The Hozelock ones are usually defined by a red band or some red colouring somewhere on the unit- as oppose to it ALL being yellow. ;)
