D C Dewey seems to be the place to get ladder spikes.
To all you that use these ladder spikes, how do you fit them?
I understand drill holes bottom sides of ladders and bolt but wondering which way round and also how much of the spike protrudes below existing ladder feet?
If anyone could show a pick would be great :)
Had a fall off ladder recently on decking.
have told most with flat roofs may have to miss windows over roofs.
Been getting most from small step ladder and WFP this has worked for most.
Got 1 bigger house where i think spikes might do the trick.
thanks lee

hi lee,
remove rubber feet and fit piece of wood inside stiles,
mark position of spikes,
drill holes and bolt on using nylon lock nuts,
cut off excess length on bolt,
or contact these guys and they'll fit em for you before delivering.
Check the online prices before ordering!!!

dare I say it?
25 years with spikes and never had a fall!!!!!!
Jinxed it now though.

Plus.... never use a ladder on any wooden decking unless it is completely dry or someone is footing the ladder.
-
my spikes sit about half an inch below the ladder . i believe that spikes are essential for this trade
mine are clip on Hailo spikes i got from Ebay but iv got them bolted on so they cannot work loose

Thanks very much guys!

Lee; drop the ladders completely. Working off a stepladder with a pole? Madness.
You were lucky not to injure yourself badly on 30th May - you have every reason tell the customer that if it can't be reached from the ground or with a pole you aren't doing them. End of.
As for wooden decking, just say no. I find some of the older stuff is rotting through from underneath nowadays so how softly do you think you'll land when your ladder spike goes through it and the ladder tips you off?

take your point gold.
Do you not use ladders full stop.
Yes i was lucky wouldn't dream of using ladder on decking now and only for two jobs.
Also not trying to be sarcastic but how do you clean a conservatory roof as i've got one to do soon and can only be done from a ladder.
thanks lee.

if the decking runs the "right "way , i.e. planks laid alongside the walls of house ,the spikes then go down in the grooves gaps and slipping is impossible
-
ladders need to be used occasionally every week for me
to unlock or hop over gates
conny roofs with one side of the roof against neighbours fence
for the odd flat roof up and over jobs
ive never used ladder spikes lee.i use a rojak ladderstopper.
i NEVER use ladders on decking whether its wet or dry
i NEVER use ladders on gravel or wet mossy flags
i NEVER use ladders on imprinted concrete driveways either.
also ladders need to be used get up close to the glass to scrape paint/dried on egg off occasionally.
best wishes

Hug corners on walls as this always is the case with flat roofs.
Seen other ladder safety device hooks on bottom if ladder and splays out idea being stops ladder slide.
Advert has guy up ladder with device fitted; bottom of ladder has wheels on
To show ladder wont slide.
One of the guys on here put a link gor o think?

I have a ladder six foot long with laddermitts which I use for reaching over to unbolt and get over gates.
Two jobs too many.
I let some other fool do the conservatory roof if it requires a ladder.
