Your quotes when you realise it is easier than you thought? quoted a con roof yesterday at £40, turned up today and cleaned it in 45 minutes, so I knocked a tenner off.
am I too soft or do you think they appreciate it and use you again :-\
-
You're soft. ;D
Although there are occasions when I turn up to clean a gutter out and its clean anyway; I kinda question if its ethical to charge what I quoted. I have been known to knock the odd quid or 20 off, I guess I'm getting soft too sometimes.
-
Its never happened to me that I got anything off.So no I will not. When I under quote I cannot ash for more.
-
Would you also up the price if the job took longer than you thought it would?
Simon.
-
never never never reduce the price.
If they agreed it, they'll pay it.
-
If I know the gutters clean and only takes 5 mins to do I always say they were bad Coz lets face it these old folk carnt go up a ladder some dornt know what day it is I always put a load of soil in bucket out of there garden ,looks like I done good job saying look how much was in they needed doing, then i put a tennis ball in next door gutter so they will ask me next clean ;)

stuart m, i think youre just being a nice person. dont think you're being too soft. i know we're in business and we're doing it to earn money but money isnt everything. if you do think its everything, running a window cleaning business probably isnt the quickest way of getting filthy rich.
and regarding Smithies point, 'be the change you want to see in the world'. a bit corny but i think its true
-
When we do a gutter clean, and it is really easy, we clean the windows for free . . . this has got us a few repeat customers. I like the saying " under promise, and over deliver ", or words to that effect ;D
-
I have reduced prices on regular cleans before. Been in an awkward mood when I priced it and went in high. I charge a fair price on all the work I do. If I under price a job I'm straight with the customer, same as if I overprice.
-
the bonus money jobs balance up ALL THOSE that took ages to do in bad weather at lower price .
thats how i see it

no i never reduce a price once ive quoted.im getting conny roof cleans at £50 and £60 a pop.also im getting fascia/soffit cleans on standard 3 bed semis at the same price!
i earn £40-£60 an hour on add on jobs and my phone has been ringing steadily all week with existing customers wanting me to book them in! ;D ;D
they are harder work than maintenance window cleaning so i charge a premium and i earn £60 an hour on some regular easy window cleaning commercial work and some large domestics.
i underpriced for years when i was on the ladders.i cant tell you the thousands of pounds ive lost by not charging enough for my service so defo no reduction in my price once quoted.
and ive got a holiday booked and i need to pay the balance of £1500 in 2 weeks after putting a £780 deposit down last month! ;) :) :)
every little helps! ;) :) :)

Never reduce the price, if its a quicker job than i originally thought i might spend a little more time to stretch the job out (not too much though)

I had that once
lady was convinced the gutter was causing damp as it was blocked so charged her a fair whack to go inspect/clean it as an emergency type job, got there and it had very little in , but other gutters were full so cleaned them instead, didnt have to though

I go in quite high if I suspect a PITA customer or really crappy job.
Every now & then I drop down to what would've been the normal price.
A bird in the hand and all that

Are you mad??? :o
-
I once had what I thought was going to be a pain in the bottom customer; she'd sacked her previous window cleaner because she didn't like them; she sounded like she was going to be trouble, so I quoted her £25 (her previous window cleaners charged £10).
She turned out to be an excellent customer; she even 'canvassed' some other jobs in her rural area which led to a lot more work, and I really felt quite guilty about taking £25 off her for what is really a quick job - easy access - so I knocked a tenner off it.
