so how are you guys getting on with the new clamps?
i ordered mine last week but not got them yet.i think gardiners are waiting for more deliveries of glue.
ive ordered the clamp kits for SLX 22,SLX 25 and SUPERMAX 40.
my SUPERMAX is spinning badly on first 3 sections,so is my SLX 25 and my 4 month old 22 SLX has started to spin as well!!
cant wait to get them and get them fitted if they are as good as they say they are! ;) :) :)
best wishes guys

I have some they grip amazing cant ever see a clamp slipping..
The are well different to the old clamp but not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing
-
Make the pole like new again, I never even wash it anymore. Clamps flip over when loose but otherwise really good.
-
I hope they are amazing coz like you Daz, I've just ordered a few. ;D
Apparently, they won't be dispatched until at least the 6th, even though I ordered a couple of weeks ago. I'm trying one of those new 10'' filters too.
-
really like them ,brilliant clamps . i agree it takes a bit of getting used to regarding spinning when open . but once you get your head around them they are a really good and easy to use. well done alex
-

I've been using the new clamps on an old SLX 30 pole the past week. I've had the pole for just over a year and it's held up fine but the top section was spinning. Getting the old clamps off was a lot easier than what I thought it would be, as was fitting the new clamps. All in all it took maybe an hour to do everything.
Getting to the point, the new clamps are great! If I really want to gripe, the lever does spin when unclamped as everyone else has pointed out but you do get used to the movement and suss out how to deal with it after a day or two. The first section on my pole doesn't spin anymore so result! I'll definitely get another year or so out of the pole and when it finally goes kaput I'll definitely being getting another Gardiners pole. Praise like that is what happens when you get a free pen ;D

I got 2 free pens, but then my clamps are twice as good as yours :)
-
Great clamps - don't waste your money fitting them to a new pole though. Get some wear out of them first. Still have to adjust them now and again but they never slip.
-
I reckon I should have sawn a few inches off the top two sections before fitting though as they are close to fully tightened.
-
I need to replace a pole soon and interested in Gardiner but would like to see a close up picture of the new clamp and can't seem to see one on their website.Could anyone kindly post one sometime please? Many thanks in advance.

I've been using a new slx 25 . Only for 2 days. But I do have a gripe . I have to tighten the barrell every 20 minutes . I find as I extend and close the pole it loosens it .more the top section as that gets extended most .it loosens that much so the section spins then I have to tighten it up again . I will give it a couple more days , see if I can Suss it out . Does anyone else have this problem . Cheers barry

Im not convinced im forever having to tighten mine up.
I have to tighten them on every other house. :(
-
I thought it was just me . Seems not . It really did my head in yesterday..
-
Loctite on the threads. ::)roll
-
What do you mean dave
-
Dab of loctite on the threads where the bolt goes through the barrel nut. Metal nuts and bolt now. If the clamp is tensioned properly the spring under the bolt head should take up any slack. Shouldn't need to alter the setting very often, only when the pole wears.
-
Will try that tonight . Cheers dave . But it's something you shouldn't have to do
-
I expect Alex will pop up soon to give the proper technique, but these clamps are designed to virtually eliminate the constant adjustment. Unless of course your pole is completely knackered perhaps.

The is strange Barry - the whole point of these clamps is that they do not need regular adjustment. The bolts have a nylock coating on them so that they grip the metal barrel nut and stay in position. They should not need any extra thread-lock applying.
Can I ask that you start from fresh and set each clamp up to the right tension. Basically this means that you will need to adjust each clamp so that it just holds the section below it with out spinning and then tighten the bolt cap by another 360degrees (one full turn). The mechanism in the clamp will prevent this from being over-tight.
Try this out and see if it makes a difference during the day. If this doesn't then I may have to look at replacing the bolts on the clamps for you.

Is this on a new pole? When was it purchased or upgraded? If it is an upgrade can you email me a photo of the pole with the clamps fitted.
-
used all my poles yesterday for the first time with new clamps on.i didnt have any nuts coming loose(apart from the one rolling around in my head!) ;D ;D ;D ;D
i love em!nice tight grip no matter where i clamp on my poles.my 2 year old SLX is like new again!!well done alex!
its great that i can clamp poles fully closed again without spinning! :D :D

Mine come slack every few minutes as well, would be good to know if it's user error.

It may be that the clamps need tightening slightly more for the initial set-up as described above.
-
I get one or two slackening a couple of times a day. It is not a biggie really. I am more concerned that the gap in clamps is nearly meeting on one section. Perhaps I should have cut the top off of the sections?
-
hi alex its on my old slx25 i got the upgrade kit.
i fitted the clamps with the glue that it came with and it never set,i phoned your office and they said it was my fault as i didnt fit them correctly.
so i took all the clamps of and sanded the glue of the poles and re applied some araldite that i got from homebase the 2 part mix stuff.
the clamps stuck much better but they are forever comming loose.
i put extra glue on the clamps to make sure they stuck well.
i will upload a pic on here, not a pretty job but as i said i put more glue on as i didnt want them comming undone.
cheers cliff

My glue didn't set either Cliff. I just used some b&q epoxy which seems ok, butI have a CLX. They said it was my fault with the glue as well. Not sure tbh as I mixed it pretty thoroughly I thought, but it never set hard.

Glad you have got them fitted now.
If the glue does not set it simply means that the two halves of the pouch (clear and black) have not mixed properly. They do need mixing well so that no clear hardener remains - not specifically your fault, but just not mixed enough. When mixed well the glue hardens off within 5-10 minutes depending on ambient temperature, so does need to be applied swiftly.
With regard to your adjustment issue could you try the following steps:
Start from fresh and set each clamp up to the right tension. Basically this means that you will need to adjust each clamp so that it just holds the section below it with out spinning and then tighten the bolt cap by another 360degrees (one full turn). The mechanism in the clamp will prevent this from being over-tight.
See if this sorts this out, if it does not please email on alex@agardiner.co.uk and we can get this sorted for you as this is not a usual user issue.

i like the pink and green glue you sell quality stuff
-
I have found that after using the pole for over a month that the screw does work loose more, if I start the day with them set up properly, by lunch the top 2 section clamps have started to flop and need the screw nipping up.
-
Thanks for the advice Alex.today was much better I set them up again , and I'm a lot happier . Plus I took that annoying gooseneck off and put the old plastic resi neck on . I was flying .i won't bother with the loctite . Cheers barry ;D
