Ok if you had to design the ultimate LM cleaning procedure what would it be?
This is what we did on a job on Wednesday.
1) rotary scrubbed to loosen al the dry soil and open the pile
2) dry vacced using the T/M and powerhead and used a 4ft long edging tool around the skirting boards
3) pre-sprayed, then scrubbed it in with the rotary
4) 10mins dwell time as we drank our coffee
5) gave it another dose of pre-spray in case it had dried out
6) used the orbital with folded cotton towels to bonnet the carpet.
7) used the TM vac again to remove some fluff and crap the scrubbing brought up.
2 of us did this on a living room and big hallway, took us an hour.
I can't think of anything else we could have done to do a better job, we could have done a lot less but we were trying to create the perfect LM Clean
Anything else we could have done or anyone got a better LM cleaning system?

Bet once you had the tm in there you just wanted to do hwe and be done with it .

It never occurred to me to use the TM with a turbo head to vacuum the carpets but can understand the logic post vacuuming with it
What did you use for the scrubbing? brush or buffing pad (colour please)

Wouldn't it of been cheaper, quicker and easier to of used a BS36?
If i get a customer who is on a very tight budget and they are looking for an EOT clean, i offer them a LM alternative...
1 Thorough vacuum
2 Pre spray using either a micro splitter or encap solution
3 TM5 / rotary
4 Spot removal
Using this method i can still offer a good quality clean which 9/10 times improves the appearance of the carpet.

Used Bioclean, with a scrubbing brush fitted to the rotary.
Russ I didn't have my vac on the van but the turbo head with the TM does a fantastic job, on a ground-floor room when you are parked on the drive it takes a couple of minutes to whip out the vac hose and use the TM to vacuum.

I would have used a pile lifter to vac, so no need for the truckmount to vac before and after clean.
I would have scrubbed the pre-spray in using a scrub pad not a brush which means in effect you are cleaning the carpet twice.
All else the same.

The thing with LM is that there is just so many different methods to achieve similar results...
I am a licensed Fusioneer which allows me to used DF as a premium service, because of the costs involved with DF it doesn't always get a look in compared to cheaper encap methods.
Encap is still very new to me, if i am doing a restoration commercial clean i tend to use the pile lifter in order to extract as much dry soil as possible plus open the pile.
I have found SPM is really good for bonnet cleaning, apply lightly and then whiz over using an absorbent bonnet... the micro splitter works on contact and allows the bonnet to lift the soils achieving very good results instantly.
I would like to learn more about encapping though...

You made no mention of a ringer bucket which DF and others say have things changed, who sells Bioclean

What colour pad do you use (I find black a bit ott unless black top)

i think bioclean replaces nemesis and is available from john Kelly.
I don't use a wringer with df very often.

How have you been using DF? cant say i do the whole pre spray and the dunking and wringing thing... its too bloody expensive

I do prespray but instead of dunking I just spray the bonnet and off I go.
I would use the wringer bucket on a job where I was doing multiple rooms but for a single room clean its easier not to and you don't waste as much cleaning solution either.
the new df solution is quite good it dilutes 10-1 and it is only a one step clean instead of having to use both activator and restore.

The problem I always see with LM cleaning is the lack of dwell time, you spray then extract.
That's why I used the brush to scrub in the prespray if I'd used a bonnet I would have been removing some of he bioclean before it had time to work. I see videos of people spraying as the clean and think they must think the chemical works on contact no dwell time needed ( which I guess is true with some cleaning agents)

I think dwell time is one of the most underestimated parts of the cleaning process.

A lot of the videos on youtube are people spraying as they go - but using pads instead of bonnets, so a minimal amount of chemical is picked up (and therefore an extra long dwell time because there is no rinse phase, only collection by vac 24+ hours later).

The scrub pads we use are from Solutions or Killis ( green microfibre with blue strips ) are the best pads we have ever used.
We use them for agitation and cleaning and the dirt they remove is astonishing.
