Title: smaller 3 seater van
Post by: AuRavelling79 on February 24, 2006, 11:35:08 pm
I'm thinking about getting a van - not too big though - anything thats got three seats at the front but between an escort and a transit in size? Payload of 800kg give or take?

Citroen Dispatch is the same as the Fiat Scudo & Peugeot Expert.  Badge engineering!  Still, gives you more of a choice when searching.

Check if you plan to buy a used model as some only have two seats.

You don't want to drive miles to view one and then find it's only got two seats!

They are very good vans but a bit of soundproofing wouldnt go amiss.
I don't think its worth buying secondhand unless you are really sure. Good secondhand ones are nearly as dear as new.
Like all secondhand vans many have been hammered. A lot of these vans are used as multidrop delivery vans and have a very hard life

Try Fiat Doblo, small van with a payload over 700kg. The New 1.3 multijet diesel engine is an award winner.

Try a LDV Pilot, an exellent van, you can get good ex post office ones, they also are maintained quite well and have full service historys.

Nissan vanette? Again it's re-badged as something else. Can't remember though. I'm looking at Ford Transit size myself, not for work I have now but for work I'll have in the future  ;)

It gets embarassing when the cyclists overtake you going uphill doesn't it?  I had diesel Ford Escorts for a few years so I've been there too  :)

Escorts were reasonably OK for what they were until you got onto a hill.  I'm not saying they were bad but, going over the Pennines, I watched the sun set while driving, and I saw the sun rise in my rear view mirror the next morning while still crossing them  (nah not really but they are grotty on hills)
