Clean It Up

I have been cleaning the carpets in a night club for some time now. It has been a bi-yearly arrangement, but now owners want monthly cleans done with the expected enquiry about price reduction ;D
Mu question is what discount would be normal to give up?
I was thinking of 20%, is it too much or is it just right?
Any thoughts appreciated!

How Big ? How long doe's Take ? ???
-
I normally charge them just over £360, so with 20% off that would be £290 per clean. It takes me around 5 hrs to do on my own.
-
yeah i'd discount no problem and encap . hwe only when and where required :)
-
£290 for 5 hrs monthly that's good give them the 20% mate it's a good little earner for you that so keep them sweet mate.
-
I would negotiate better payment terms if you are not already getting payment on completion.
-
Dan, problem with encap is their customers tend to pour some fair amount champagne on the carpet as in places it's absolutely sticky so i think it must be HWE on each visit.
Jason, i've got 14 day credit term with them, may try and get it down to 7 days.
Phil, it's not bad money for 5 hrs, however club is in Piccadily, Central London and they usually want it done on Sundays at 7 am straight after the fiesta so not so nice :-\

What sort of a relationship do you have with them, can you not find out what they want? Personally I would start by suggesting it might be difficult to fit that commitment into your schedule. For all you know they might think they are chancing their arm asking for a discount or would be ecstatic with 10pc. If they snap your hand off when you say 20pc you can't negotiate the price up.

5 hours for £290? mmmm id pass, having said that, if its monthly cleaning then it should take you half the time so then its a good rate
-
Love it.
Somebody that would pas on it at £72 per hour.
Or £60 per hour at discount rate.
-
Just give them a discount, probably along the lines of what Wynne said and ignore the comments from billy big balls who won't do 5 hours work for £290.
-
Thanks guys, I will offer them 20% off. They have always been extremely happy with my service so think they will accept the price. Will let you know how I get on. :)
Cheers

The danger is they have a couple of cleans done then leave it for ages to the next clean.
Why not do 10 cleans full price then 2 cleans free that way they cannot rip you off.

That's right.... Pass
-
Seriously though, if it a regular contract then I'd discount, it sounds like a easy £60 an hour to me, put your iPod on random and away you go

Love it.

;D
It's called bragging.
-
Draw up a signed contract were 20% discount each month on a 6 month contract and if your relationship is good ask to pay the 6month up front put it all in a contract so they feel at ease knowing you will turn up or you refund them but if you can't complete because of them then you keep your payments.
-
Why discount it ?, if you went in their club drinking once a month @ £x per drink then decided you were going in 3 times per month would they discount their prices ?.
-
A discount is good to keep them sweet, but why 20%?
They love what you do, they havent asked for a discount
have they?
Why are you knocking such a chunk off?
Which you're clearly not sure about.
I understand you want to show some gratitude.
If you think 20% is too much, just say to them something like
you appreciate the continuing business from now you'l do it for
£320.
That way you've knocked abit off which the'l love and you've not
Given too much away.

its called having a laugh... ;D why are people sooo touchy?

Trouble is, there`s very little loyalty with commercial customers. If it`s a job you want to keep, I`d be tempted to drop the price. Ive lost quite a few jobs over the years through being too expensive. Theyre all happy with the work but just want it done for peanuts. Doesn`t bother me too much as I`m kept pretty busy with domestics.

Look this is just BASIC negotiation skills. You dont just give away 20% because you THINK thats what they want, you ask them after you have burst their bubble. If they say 20% you can suck in air and say OK if you go on contract or pre pay.
What if they ask for 10% more off whatever figure you give them? Would you do it for 30% off?
If you asked them and they said well we were hoping for 5% off, would you say no, no, no I will give you 20% off because I like you.
But hey its your business, do what you want. ;D

Hot steam, I like your idea. Worth trying it out.
Rich, the have asked for a discount, plus we have already had agreed 10% off as long as they call me in every 6 months. So from this point it's hard to say to them it still be 10% for monthly.
I also like the idea of pre-payments.
Thanks a lot everyone.
