Hi
I've got to seal some Indian sandstone any recommendations on what's the best?
Thanks in advance
-
Fluoropolymer.
-
Any makes you recommend? I'm looking for a colour enhancer/damp look type. Does the sealer prevent regrowth of blackspot and other algae etc?
-
Du pont Teflon.
They will not enhance or change the look of the substrate. But in my opinion they provide the best protection combined with easy application.
Resiblock do a range of colour enhancing sealers.
-
Resiblock indian stone sealer is also very good stuff, especially to enhance the colours

Hi hear resiblock get mention fair bit on here for producing good products.
I've just googled them for the first time and it seems there quality does not come cheap :o

so does anyone know if these sandstone sealers can withstand a washdown from the customer with dliuted household bleach (not heavy duty hypo) occasionally to prevent any re-appearance of blackspot and other algae or is the sealer in itself enough to prevent (not just inhibit) this?
and as far as block paving sealer has anyone used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120882389158?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 it seems a lot cheaper than others on the market, and i wondered if it was any good? it says its polyeurathane

that sealant is ok if you dont mind it lasting about 4 months..... ::)roll ::)roll ::)roll
Resiblock is expensive for a reason ;)

Do not use this !
Sandstone sealing poses two problems both relating to moisture. Pu sealer will not allow sandstone to "breath" hence any moisture percolating up from the substrate below can not escape if the sandstone is "sealed".
Second problem is sandstone never really "drys" out due to it's porosity so getting stuff to "stick " for any length of time is a problem.
There is a more technical side to my explanation and i'm sure somebody will be on to correct me....i just put it in easy to understand contractor terms ;D

hi chris thanks for the response, sorry my post is a bit unclear, i needed some block paving sealer for a block paved drive as well, not for the sandstone.

Look at the tin, it says paint master... this is not a polyurethane sand stabiliser or sealer of any kind, it will be merely a clear paint / wood varnish that the manufacturers are selling it from a different angle, I have been through this with resiblock and another manufatuer of pu, they could't even buy the raw materials for that price, they have also lodged complaints against the manufacturers of this floor paint manufacturer and another company up in leyland. You pay for what you get, if this stuff was what it states and at this price then do you think resiblock and other firms would still be going? they would either go bust or be forced to reduce their prices

I would steer clear of sealing block paving . If you phone me i can talk you through it. I'm not being patronising but it is a pain to get right!
-
cheers guys, it did seem to be too good to be true the price of that stuff. i've tried to steer clear of sealing and talk customers out of it, but i'm getting a few that are insistant on it being sealed. because i've no experience of sealing , just cleaning, and didn't want to mess up someones drive i went on a smartseal training course last month to get an idea of sealing. i quite like the idea of the sandstone sealing, but i'm undecided on the blockpaving, it seems a lot of hassle i can do without. are smartseal sealers any good?
-
Smartseal sealers good....but it is not usually the sealer that fails but something else in the chain.
