Title: Crew cab vans
Post by: lukeg on May 12, 2013, 07:37:52 pm
Will be looking for a new van soon and quite like the idea of a crew cab van like vivaro lwb or transit with the idea to sell the car as my partner doesn't drive and it's just sat there not moving during the week. Does anyone else use these type of vans as their only vehicle?

Yes, I,ve got a VW Transporter crew cab, best bit of kit I have owned. Not my only car though. I get 38mpg out of it and it never breaks down.

What size tank do you have? I do like VW's I have a T4 atm but they seem to hold their price and are more expensive in the first place.

Only problem I can see is you can't offset them against tax, only claim a mileage allowance. But I want one too.

Will have to ask the accountant about that, I would think that if you had a separate car it would be ok, but as I want it as my only vehicle you might be right.

You can only offset if the van is wholly for your business. Whilst you might be able to get away with using your van for non business, you would have a hard job justifying a crew van for work only to the taxman.

You can still offset for tax purposes but you have to use a percentage.

FOr instance 70% work 30% private .

So you can offset 70% in one year in as a capital allowance? That is worth knowing if you are correct.

Im not 100% sure if you can offset it one year or if it has to be over several but I think you can .

THe percentage obviously depends on your own usage .
