Title: Cheap business bank account
Post by: HampshireWindowCleaning on May 09, 2013, 07:10:14 pm
Does anyone know of a business account that is free to pay in cheques?
My 18 months free business banking with Lloyds TSB has just ran out and i've been charged over £100 for 1 months banking, ive now gone on to a electronic tariff so any online payments should be free but i'm getting charged 70p per cheque that I pay in and I probably pay in 50 odd cheques a month.

Lloyds tsb will charge you for standing in the que.
When my free banking ran out I moved to Barclays. I do have a business manager here though (I'm not sure he knows much about any business, but he's good on the computer) and I will try to get a deal where I pay a fixed amount per month. or I will move again.

I will soon be in the same boat with hsbc they will charge me £1 a cheque after the first 5 a month and £1 to every 100 I put in cash but free bank transfers. If I cant come to an agreement with them I will be moving to santander they have free bussiness banking but you must have £1000 going in/out every month.

I think Santander is £7.50 a month for newer customers.  They tried to pull that stunt on existing customers but the backlash made them back down.  £7.50 not bad though but customer service is poor if you want anything more complex.  £7.50 has a 100 cheque per month limit and something like £3k a month cash limit before charging more - should be fine for most sole traders.
Take out the 321 credit card and you get 3% cashback on fuel, more or less equates to free banking ;)
