i gave up on em after 2 failed on me. now i charge my aux battery every night

Some vehicles have the fAg lighter wired to ignition so only on when car is running. Can you not just run a lead to battery so will top up charge when driving round. Or will there be too much draw? I think they are good for 10 amp.. ???

Depends on your system. Most of the window cleaning ones are beyond useless, some are downright dangerous.

With that installed both your batteries should remain fully charged.

I had one fitted last time I took van in for service, it has done better than I expected.
The mechanic said that as soon as the main battery was fully charged it would then charge aux battery.

It depends on how long your engine is running every day and how big your leisure battery is.
If you work close to home then the SCR won't put much charge back into the battery. This is our situation. I have a 110amp leisure battery and I charge it every few days depending on use.
Leisure batteries don't accept a rapid charge - rather a trickle charge. Mine will accept a charge of around 7 amps an hour at a 3/4 charge dropping down as the battery gets charged more fully.
So in theory, we have to travel for an hour to replace 2 hours pump useage if the pump draws 3.5 amps.
If my pump consumes 15 amps during the day (controlled by my Varistream flow controller) then I should have enough current in the battery to charge it every 7 days. We may spend 20 to 30 minutes a day travelling to and from work so 3.5amps in does help but won't have a major charging impact.
In our case, we had an old leisure battery that failed about 2 years ago on a rather big job the 2 of us were doing. We were able to run the engine which provided enough power to run the 2 pumps to finish the job and replenish some of the charge back to the battery. I replaced the battery a few days later - it was 3 1/2 years old. Just on this one job, the SCR paid for itself.

I wouldn't bother if you run one pump, just run it off the van battery. I know others with two pumps that run off the van battery with no problems. I've ran my pump on high flow off the van battery for years, on two different vans. At least see how you get on, keep an eye on the battery level. But you should be okay.

To the OP-like everything in life-it depends if its any good.
I've got one, cost me £140 for split charge and variflow controller fitted.
Both work a treat. Never had to charge in 15 months.
You could buy an amp meter and check it each day or just try it and see what happens...
I think RC property does them-he may be the man to chat to...

you shouldnt have too.could depend on the quality of battery,i have a £26.00 car battery wired into the relay via van battery never had to take off and charge.
I also have a battery from a peugeot partner charge it on a sunday and it will last all week working directly to the pump
i would like to point out i'm in a hired vehicle at the moment using the peugeot battery to run the system,that how i know

I think the car battery works better because it can take a higher charge rate from the relay but a leisure battery can only trickle charge .
I may be wrong though
