Title: Water charge rip off?
Post by: Dave Willis on May 04, 2013, 07:14:19 am
I've just been hit by a £750 bill for the last six months  :o
I have no leaks and I measure my usage. I actually used less water than the year before on the business side and yet used a massive amount on the domestic side. Strangely I can't check this myself because they came along and fitted a new meter in the road.

I'm convinced there is some scam going on with Wessex Water - anyone else getting stung?

I pay £50 a month this covers my usage and some towards catching up on an old bill.

Hold off paying it.
Get meters fitted yourself and tally the numbers.
Sounds right though if you're on a meter (almost) everyone seems to be paying over £100 a month

Incredible, we have a house meter and I have had a sub meter fitted, I have arranged with southern water a non return to sewer charge for the business. For example if our house uses 75 cubic meters of water we will be billed for that, I then read my sub meter and submit the reading for example 45 cubic meters. The bill is then re calculated and basically the difference is what the business. pays. So 75 - 45 =  30 You have to read you sub meter regular at least once a week.

That's appalling!! I predicted water would go this way a few years back. It's an essential in which they will only keep increasing the cost of to line the pockets of the greedy few! It's actually disgusting!

Fortunately for me, I'm in Scotland where there are no domestic water meters & our supply costs approx £150 per year, oh & it's lovely & soft too! ;D

Water Privatisation (Hansard, 16 June 1992)
The average household water bill has increased by 47.1 per cent. since privatisation. Water charges have risen by almost three times the rate of inflation
Rip off and it will get worse - no wonder I'm depressed >:( >:(

i have only got a 250 liter tank but i waste 250 liters dawn the drain  so i am using 500 liters a day so if its £4.46 a cubic meter witch is 1000 liters and i am using half that then my water bill per day should be £2.23 a day to fill up. witch works out about £11.15 a week or 5 working days anyway. (£44.60 a month) soz just working it out lol not to bad for me though.   ::)roll

Plus your household usage.
I use about 125 cubic metres per year for my business according to my own meter. They reckon an average house with four people should be around £800 for the year. They claim we are high users which puts us into £900+ per year.
Add that to my business and my total is closer to £1500 per year including sewerage.

They have forgotten to give me a rebate on water not being returned to the drains (which is still a poor figure anyway).
I honestly believe we are being ripped off big time - I'm sure this will hit the papers soon, it's a joke.
