Title: Asking callers what you are quoting against
Post by: wayne zabel on May 01, 2013, 05:27:02 pm
Just doing a bit of research, when you get callers asking for quotes do you ask them any questiond regarding what prices you are going to have to compete against, and if so how would you drop this into the conversation, would you do it early before giving your price or give a price and then ask if they have had anything similar ect.

I have rarely asked if they have had other quotes and usually give my price and try to explain how I will do the job ect.

Had about 4 calls over last few days and had the usual "I will have a chat with my wife" and never got replies.

It would be nice to know what I was competing against.

Yes certainly and if they have had cheap quotes it then gives you an opportunity to try and persuade them to use you and why.............unless you are evn cheaper ;D

I always get told that they have had cheaper quotes ........ I still get jobs though !! I explain that I do not need to know other quotes as I do not 'price match' ..... as I am sure they will not 'quality match' my work. Sounds cheesy but it seems to do the trick  ::)roll
