Title: How much, (With Pics)
Post by: Alex Wingrove on April 29, 2013, 07:24:43 pm
Pressure Washer Job to be done.

How much would you charge to clean all of the tennis court and the fence around it, both sides.

The court is 14m*27m so 378m2

Fence is approx 300m2 of fence.

Also all of the patio, decking, furniture, bins, plant pots, umbrellas and the staircase that you see.

Thanks

The water will run off the sides of the tennis court, leaving a big pile of moss slurry.

That's a big job and needs to be done right. I'll help you out with it if you are interested?

i would be tempted to price it day by day.
work out a daily rate including all chemicals, fuel etc for pressure washer. Then split the work up into days work, and price it by that and add a little bit on just incase it takes longer;)

That was my first thought.
Although to be honest that's much bigger than anything I've ever done so could be well off the mark.
Brick weave will need to be re-sanded aswell which is another additional cost and it has sunk in places.
And how would the tennis court be done? Can a turbo nozzle be used on that or will it blow holes in it?

I have already done most of it.

Just the inside of tennis court fence, and 95% of the court left to do

Drainage wasnt such a big issue beacuase its been hot, and there was plenty of run off area, and one huge sump.

Tennis court has been started with the FSC. I will clean up with the turbo, problem with using the turbo on the tennis court is consistency.

You cant get too close to it because it will blow holes in the surface, or blow the paint away, and its really hard to keep a constant distance from the surface.

Im cleaning it up with a yard scoop, there is so much moss its quicker than moving it around with the turbo.

Wont need much re sanding if any, its not normally block work, its all set in place with pug, I may run some sand back down it just to make sure, but the other block work that they have just had done, isn't sanded so ill see how time goes.

Ive spent 21 hours so far, forgot to mention the gates.

I didnt need to give a price, because they just said do it, and that they trust me. With almost any other client this would be a problem, but this client is as good as gold.

I just dont want to over charge them.

Mmm I would possibly say 21hours is 3days work, obviously there's costs aswell but could he really justify charging £2500?
If I'm correct £2500 divided by 21hours is £120 an hour ... So even if there's another days cleaning with still be close to £100 an hour :o
I know there's money in pressure cleaning but I don't charge that kindof money, especially on domestic

Why oh Why have you started the job with out agreeing the price first with the customer, I don't care who the customer is ALWAYS agree on the price before you start.

If you say its £2000 and he says, Oh I thought it was going to be around £1000 and you have done the job , you will have a problem !

Is that because of all the driving around you did with your arm out the window? Seems you did very little last week!  ;)

I would consider sealing that tennis court too if the Tarmac is good. What colour is it? You can get black, green and red sealer. The cleaning will of course be to a high standard, but sealing it will give a great finish.

Price wise, is it 1 man on the job or 21 hours with 2/3 men?  If its one man, you gotta be looking at £60/£70 per hour which takes in your materials and something no one else has mentioned, your expertise. Pricing a job like that is not just materials and time, but drawing on your skill set too.

Because that's what we have done before, they are the ones the said just do it not me. If i knew that it was going to be an issue, then I would have prices it before.

Besides its not him its her, and shes down to earth.

They have recently spent £10,000 on a 30m2 of tiled floor. I dont think she will care about £2000.00 for over 1000m2 of cleaning

1st rule in business, agree on a price BEFORE you start a job, no matter who the customer is or what your relationship is with them ,or even when they say " just do it " ,

I am not having a go at you Alex , it just that I personally would not do any job without agreeing the price , no matter what the circumstances were.
