Title: Advice on Staff
Post by: Stu Wallace on April 23, 2013, 07:55:33 am
Hi

I'm thinking of getting a person to help me out on a part time/casual basis.

I need advice on where/how to get the best person for the job I really don't want to be wasting my time speaking to loads of people to find someone that is reliable etc.

Also how should I pay them? Hourly or a day rate?

Any Advice is welcome

Thanks

I pay hourly, pay starts at the first job.   I currently hav 4 parttimers and one advantage  of parttime  is they are always fresh . also you are not dependant, somebody starts slackin or not turnin up,just get one of the others

go with your gut feeling when interviewing, sure you need a worker, but ask loaded questions, such as "do u smoke?"

if answer is "what, cigarettes?" , chances are they are dope smokers ,in my experience they don't work well.
Another thing to look out for are secret hand signals,if you meet them on the street and  they are making thumbs up/thums down or 3 finger gestures to cars that drive past, they are dealing in summat,or buying regular dodgey items.
I put ads out in shop windows near my home, then filter the phone calls, a good sign is somebody who sounds a tad dozy , a bad sign is somebody cocky  who has done every job under the sun including fitting kitchens in Israel or similar.  best types are college lads or girls . I have 1 college lad and 2 girls plus a middleage woman

Its a wonder you manage to make it through the day.

I fitted a kitchen in Israel once. I fitted out a whole flat once actually. Back in '87, down in Eilat. I guess that counts me out then.

This is brilliant Bobby.

I had my suspicions that you were just on the wind up but now I know it's true. Very funny though.

Hand signals lol
